Trail Riding Intro Day Weds 26th June 6.30pm - Big Bikes welcome

I have given it a go, and without MX gear, only gravel and dirt tracks which for now I am happy with. I just don't want to go over huge rocks, or really slippery stuff where proper off-road tyres are required, or the sort of terrain where your highly likely to drop a bike, if I really like it I would buy a more suitable machine.

I have also ridden a few unpaved roads abroad, again these are not too chalenging and if your careful the risk of a drop is relatively small.

The biggest problem I have is finding these trails, or knowing which ones you can take a vehicle down, I tend to look for any track with a "not suitable for motor vehicles" warning as it gives away the fact motor vehicles are allowed.

What's with the MX Boots recomendation?

I know they are very different to road / race boots, but wondered why a good sturdy pair of road boots are considered inadequate on dirt.

The difference in boots will be obvious if you compared them side by side, the offroad boots will be more rigid and articulate less at the ankle. They will also offer more protection against twisting i.e. catching your boot tip on the edge of a deep rut.

Re: trails - there a few trails in Oxfordshire but Wiltshire has more legal Byways than any other county in the UK. But OS Landranger maps (I prefer 1:50,000) and look for Byways in the legend, start with map numbers 173 & 174.

When I fell off Berin's "ready to race" 350, I was in shorts and flip flops. No harm done!
Poor gear makes you concentrate harder.:D

I heard it was a thong....

Did a few lanes tonight. All nice and dry.

Its the car park of the Bull at Streatley - 6.30 Weds

Dont think I actually posted the RV.

Take ups a bit poor so I have stuck it on the KTM forum too.

If you are happy with stout boots thats fine. We will be taking it very easy.

Personally for the sake of £30 for a used pair of MX boots, thats what I'd wear. They are your ankles, its your choice.

Will you be coming?

M

Thanks for info, working in Northampton so no chance of getting back in time.

Patrick (poss)

No need for me to bring boots for anyone.

Rasher and Dubster and possibles for next time.

Weathers OK ish, chance of rain. REM are you on road tyres? If so if there is more than the lightest of showers we will need to scrub it as its chalky up on the downs.

Did a few lanes the other night on the GS. Its pretty good up there this time of year. Few nice pubs for a pint afterwards, too.

My mobs Oh 7787 five51541 - call me if any probs etc. I will be coming from Battersea so bear with me if a few mins late but I'll try to be on time of course.

Tomorrow evening then, Bull at Streatley, 6.30.

Have a good do boys, sounds like good fun :P

Have a good one Mike et al. :thumb Count me in for sure for the next one, will amputate this cuntin ankle if it doesn't fix in time :D

Guys I am not well and gonna have to cancel. The kids seem to have picked up a nasty little virus and I went down with it last night.

Anyhow I am still in bed and feel terrible.

I will reconvene.

Sorry to hear about that, hope you and the kids get better soon.

Definitely interested if you were to re-arrange for mid August... the screws in my foot come out on the 16th July!

Just as well I checked, was thinking of coming along on the 690 as I'm bored.

Hope you feel better Mike, but don't bring your bugs down the pub tomorrow!:comfort

Contingency buddy

Sorry to hear you're poorly too. Only found out on arrival at the Bull though!
Met REM, had a nice ride over the ridgeway, Stanmore, Beedon, Boxhill, Maidencourt and ended at the pub in Lambourn for a coffee before a mad dash home to beat the fading light as my 6v 35Watt headlamp was looking like it was only working at 50% brightness.
Nice to meet you Richard, great riding partner, fully loaded 800 GS with panniers and never lost sight of you, even on the mighty SP, in full power mode!
:beerjug:

Phew good job you went Patrick and I am glad REM had an enjoyable ride. I really was floored for 24 hours, only just starting to feel OK now.

Will sort out another one soon.

Mike: no worries hope you are well now. Patrick did a stirling job to introduce me to the Berks/OXon lanes - some really nice ones.

Patrick: many thanks it was great to meet and ride the lanes with you.
