Trailer for two 1200GSs

I have an Erde 751 which I use for my GSA and Yamaha TTR250 trailbike at the same time.

The rails on the Erde are not very heavy duty and the weight of the bike causes them to flex. Its OK when its all strapped down and I have never actually had a problem

I have to say that having since seen a pheonix I would probably go for it now as they look a lot stronger than the Erde. Another goor recommendtion for the pheonix is that Nick Saunders uses one for recovery when he does the 24,000 America tours. Lots of people use GSA's on those trips so you can be sure it does the job.

To the OP:

You tell us that you only need the trailer when you go in your mobile home, with your 'biking partner', who also owns a 1200.

How often does this happen and for how long? I would suggest that if it's just once a year for two weeks, then renting is the way to go. Cheaper and much less of a faff getting a trailer made (unnecessary, as perfectly good secondhand ones are easy to find) and stored when not in use.

Trailer rental is cheap. Not least you will have some experience of the type of trailers available along with their good and bad points, so will know exactly what to specify for your hand-build should it ever come about.

Second hand purchases, cheaper still. You might ask yourself why so many keep appearing..... I guess because bods decide that they do not use the trailer quite as often as they thought. That's not a problem if you rent one.

They know what they are talking about, their after-sales service is first class. Buy with confidence.... but they are not cheap-cheap. If you can find one on Ebay, buy it. I bought one having seen an AA bod assemble one in a car park, lob my Blackbird onto it, transport the bike quite a long way, drop the bike off and dissemble it all with the minimum amount of hassle, all on his own.

I`ve bought this one from the MoD:

The axle assembly/break is from manufacturer Knott and the Nato towing eye can be changed to 50 mm ball in no time.
A skilled welder could weld one of those I am sure, but is it economical viable?
