What sort of milage are you guys getting from a rear Trailwing

My 12 came with these as standard and I have done 4,500k and I reckon I have only got another 1,000k before they are past the wearbars.

5,500k dosent seem much to me, although most of my riding has been in the Adelaide hills (lucky enough to commute via some great roads) and the weather has been hot most of the time so the tarmac has been really grippy.

Tire pressures are checked regularly, even got the BM Mech to check when I got my software update 2 weeks ago.

Is it the hot roads or are Trailwings prone to wearing out fast ?

Tourances next I think !!!

Mike

I hate you......well not really....it's -2C here.......and your mileage from a rear seems low if you're quoting km.

Stop hooning abart y'Aussie barst...........[Transmission Interupted}

:beerjug:

I would expect 5,000miles/8,00km froma rear.........but then again mine aren't likely to melt..........Have several Toohey's Reds for me.

I doubt you'll find anyone here who rides on trailwings if they aren't still on their original OE fitment tyres.....

My Adv came with them, and although they felt OK, I did notice a big difference when I changed to (or 'upgraded' to) anakees, and now I'm on Tourances.

I'd never go back to Trailwings, unless they were a last resort, but the wear you describe sounds about right.

Bin them Mike, and let us know how you find tourances (or maybe even TKC80's.....well worth a look ;) )

Bill

PS take a look at the tyre FAQ for more info and other people's opinions.

Thanks guys I will definatly try the Tourances next.

PS I hate Tooheys - Coopers man myself

And dont worry - our Summer is going and yours is on the way :D :D

Is the Trailwing the Dunlop D607? If so, that's what I use (so far). I got 5000 miles from my first rear. Currently on about 8000 miles and the front will probably need to be replaced at 10k with the rear again.

(edit - ignore me, I checked the Tyre FAQ and the Dunlops are "trailmax". Trailwings are from Bridgestone. Bah.)

No the Trailwing is Bridgestone and seems to have a compound simaler to liquorice..... except liquorice grips better..!!

I've done about 1K miles on the Trailwings which came on my bike. I've been pleasantly surprised at how good they are, after everything I've read about them. I've only had the bike sliding around under braking once and similarly the rear has only spun up once on the way out of the same shite covered corner.

Perhaps I'm just too slow to expose their shortcomings....:o

Like Mouse, I've got the Dunlop 607 (Trailmax). Not sure what the general consensus on these is but I quite like them. They seem to be quite grippy and do get warm quickly (well in the summer at least) looks like the rear will last about 5-6000 miles, and the front a little more but not much more.
Next time I'll go BT020 or may stay with the D607 as they have been so good. I only ride on the tarmac and the odd bit of gravel so I'm mainly interested in road going tyres.

Bridgestone 020's

Anyone tried Bridgstone 020's. 90% of my riding is on asphalt and I am looking for the maximum grip on asphalt.

To be honest I dont find them too bad, they were fine for the first 1000k but as they wear they are becoming more twitchy and sensitive to overbanding. They do provide a reasonable amount of confidence however I am keen to try Tourances

A few people have used 020s on here have a look at the excellent FAQ

I binned the OE Trailwings on my 650GS after 4,500 miles even though there was tread depth left due to constant understeer and some scary front end slides. They were OK for around 3,000 miles, then seemed to lose the will to corner. :(

I went for a set of Pirelli Sport Demons, which grip like dag to a sheeps bum and let me ride like a hooligan even on cold, damp February roads, :) but don't look like they will live as long as Tourances.

Hope this helps, :beerjug: PB

I'm up to 11,000km, mostly two-up highway riding, and expect to get another couple of thousand k's out of them. There can be plenty of heat in a summer here too, up to 41*C on one trip in January, but most of my runs have been in 15 - 30*C conditions. I have found the Trailwings to be capable tyres, but I haven't really pushed them. Too much noise from the SO.
