Hi,
I'm just in the early stages of trying to plan to ride the TAT or part of it.
It seems the best time to ride this route due to weather conditions would probably be August 2014.
Due to cost of bike freight I think up to 6 riders may work but I am open to any suggestions or input.
Again this is in it's early stages so ANY input would be greatly appreciated.
Mel

Hi Mel
I am interested in doing the TAT in 2014. My basic plan it to buy a bike over there (got a mate over there who would help so this would be done in advance) ride the TAT and then take it up to Canada, leave it there and go back the following year to ride the TCT. Due to work commitments would have to be between 19th July to 7th Sept 2014. I would be interested in joining a group if the dates matched.
Cheers Nick

TAT

Hi Nick,
Sorry for delay I've been away on Hols for a few weeks.
The time scale you gave should not be a problem.
Now I am back home I will put some effort into the route and dates.
It may be a few weeks before I get back to you but I sure will .
Thanks for the interest.
Regards Mel

Hi Mel

I will be following this thread closely and hopefully there might be some other lurkers out there who will join in :). Have you come across Kevin's TAT site? Loads of information including track logs and routes on GPS https://sites.google.com/site/gpskevin/adventurerides/trans-america-trail and there is a thread going on ADV riders http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=927388

Once you start thinking about routes let me know it would be good to bounce ideas, maybe meet up at one of the rallys.

Just a bit about me: I will be 53 next year and from Devon, I have been riding bikes a long time but it is only recently, in the last 3 years, I have been trail and off road riding. I get out green laning most weekends. This will be my 3rd bigish trip having done 7000 miles around the The Stans got to with 25 miles of China and back to the UK in 2012 and then Mongolia to the UK in 2013. My bike will be a DRZ400s with a Clarks 14ltr tank and soft panniers. I travel on the cheapish side, mainly camping and eating cheap or cooking myself. I am easy going.

I am not a subscriber so don't think I can send PM's but my email is schoe000 at aol dot com (mods if this is against the rules please delete and sorry) I would be interested in any links you find.

Cheers Nick

Just be wary of GPS Kevins TAT route compared to Sam Correro's offering. They actually start in different places. Bit of a pain seeing as we had all the maps and road book for sam's route, only to head to Kevins Start point :blast

Rode the entire TAT this summer, PM if you need any help/advice.

I'm interested

Hi Mel
IAm interested in doing the TAT next year, but it will depend on how long I Need to take off work, cost etc. I am an experienced off roader, my bike of choice is an RMX450Z, but it could change. Really liked the second half completed by others on this site this year.
You can pm me
Cheers
Nick

i am looking take my ktm 950 adventure seems be on large side but cant afford sell or change for another bike

drop me pm

I'm looking at doing this in 2015. Or the TCAT, though I'm Still deciding if I'm up to handling the 990 off road..

Certainly for the most part, the first half to Colorado is do-able on a big bike. I've done it on an 1100GS and Blue and Skygod came along a couple of years ago on their respective KTM950 and HP2. There are ride arounds on the mapping for the really tough bits where you would struggle.
