Wapping help me : Nav V is completely up the creek in Orleans, tells me to turn left and then I see no entry signs, then I see roads with trams coming towards me and I cannot go where I want to without fear of being impaled into the front of a tram !
The hotel receptionist tells me it's ok to ride down the roads on the pavements ( my French is 40 yrs old schoolboy (I'l fait du temps stuff )and locals seem to do it and park wherever they please but there are gendarmes everywhere. Have you ridden in Orleans ? NIGHTMARE ! (I'll do a ride report when back in UK :-) Can I ride in tram roads?

Or if ever
I'm half expecting a pile of traffic enforcement violations in my letterbox.

Sorry mate
Wapping's at Le Mans for the weekend.
I'll be catching up with him on Friday if that's of any help????

Neil

After a pedestrian day here observing the ways of the traffic, I think I am getting an understanding ; it's when you have a load of locals behind you in 30 degC heat and are faced with both trams and gendarmes that is unnerving :

I love Orleans (France) btw

We stayed at the Hotel d' I'Abeille (I think that's the name) which is the imposing building on the right a bit further down the street from the approaching car. The hotel entrance is in Rue d Alsace Lorraine and is "one way" with "no right turn" at the top which is the street in your picture. Every day we left the hotel, turned left at the "no right turn junction" then first right, right again, then right again which brings you to the main east west drag. Easy. Never had to ride on a pavement once.

I was using my eyes as much as possible, it was the communication between the optic nerve and the French translation part of my grey matter that wasn't functioning quick enough:
For example: Saturday afternoon at 5pm, hot sunshine, traffic behind, I'll give you 10 seconds to read the following FRENCH Orleans sign and tell me of you can ride down this road:

Yes or no and you have no more than 10 seconds, i.e. real life situation?
p.s. I love Orleans, so here's another pic:

nope

Pedestrian Way

Driving forbidden

"except residents, Deliveries and public services"

I speak a bit of the lingo so it is a wee bit of a cheat

But if it says Interdit it means forbidden unless you see "Sauf" which means except

In this case the Residents, Deliveries, Public services and the pushbikes (moving at less than 10Km/h) are allowed

Just been to Orleans as in today, the only issue i had was it was wet and the road surface and tram tracks are lethal in the city and also the white paint on the zebra crossings, cant stress the latter enough, two wheel slide sideways at slow speed.
