Need some advise please. Son is lookin at an '89 TA. I/we know nothing about them. Your thoughts would be gretly appreciated.

'89 Transalp would be XL600V with front disc and rear drum brakes - popular conversion was to fit later swinging arm and rear disc.
Easy bike to ride, a different GS style machine - I've been up mountain roads and forest trails. I get better than 50 MPG and about 170 miles to reserve. Good for 100mph+
Same wheel sizes/tyres as the 1991> R80GS / R100GS, but seat height lower.
Liquid cooled V-twin engine, twin CV carbs, dual CDI ignition, twin plugged head. Vibs from 4,000 revs onward
Wheel rims subject to corrosion problems, CDI can fail (one of mine did), with the connector being crushed by the base of the seat - a piece of wood bridging the frame is a accepted mod. Easy to fault find as the rev counter runs of the rear cylinder CDI.
Parts are available and cheap.
Seat is bad - I can do about 80 miles and I have to get off.
Engine work is awkward. You'll need the Honda spark plug tool to get at two of the plugs. You'll need to remove fairing lowers, seat and tank to do the tappets ( three valves per head)
Check the oil before each ride. Honda say that 800cc per 1000km is acceptable.
Starts first time, quiet, decent rack, good headlight, can fit like an old comforable pair of shoes. Good owners info available.
