A couple of mates of mine are doint the TAT at the moment, they arrived in the USA in early June and have bought KLR650s.

There is a blog for those that are interested or may be considering doing the TAT themselves; I think Sgt Bilco is arranging a trip so this may give you a taste of what is to come.

Good job we're heading to Silverton from NM, hopefully missing the problem with fires:eek:

Yep, I'm doing my best Corporal Jones impression now and may get a Spot tracker :eek

That heat is certainly going to be debilitating, and from the reports there seems to be quite a bit of technical areas, time will tell!

To be fair, the chaps in that blog were novices off-road so I'm not worried by what they think is technical. But I am worried about day after day of it being 90 degrees and that the fatigue of sapping energy and concentration. We will see!

Currently in Oklahoma with pinkytiff, and the temperature has dropped off a lot the past few days. It was in the hundreds during our ride through Mississippi and Arkansas, but it's now dropped off to the low 80's. Much more civilised.

On hot days soak all riding kit in the shower before you leave in the morning- makes the heat much more bearable.

This time tomorrow we should be in Trinidad, Colorado to catch some of the celebrations! Looking forward to escaping the flat lands as well.

Is this the same Dave who featured in the video of Kevin and Julia Sanders trip from Alaska to Patagonia a few years back? IIRC his wife wasn't too kind to him whilst he was away?

If it is - good on him! Maybe life's turned around for him.:thumb2

My two penny worth - I find rehydration salts work fine, and taking a lot of small mouthfulls of liquid through the day rather than drinking a pint of fluid every stop and peeing it out 15 mins later. For both trips to Morocco I just took a mouthfull of water every 10 mins or so through the day and had no trouble with dehydration.

That's him Andy, he's been a mate of mine for a few years now. Strangely enough I watched the Alaska to Patagonia vid and then met him through Bill Paget who I've known for years - Bill is the other rider doing the TAT with him. Dave has moved on significantly and has had a new amour in his life for a few years - she also happens to be a biker and rides a BMW F800R. :thumb

I signed up for his blog this morning. Got an out of office reply saying 'I'm away on Powerflex business at the moment'! Who's he trying to kid!::augieProduct testing?:D:D:D
