Leaving blighty on Tuesday for Istanbul, via Romania :bounce1
I need a bit of info. before I set off  is the Transalpina, (DN67C), Sebes to Advaci, all tarmac nowadays, or are there stretches of unmade road :nenau
Any information appreciated :thumb2

Cheers MrIFan,
Thanks for the information .. are you saying the Transfagarasian and the Transalpina are one of the same :nenau.

Oops! sorry, I was talking about the 7C. Last time I tried to do the 67C, North from the 7A, it was pretty much impassable within 2 miles of the junction and had never seen tarmac. That was about 4 years ago though.
Last I heard it hadn't improved. Got a mate over there who does tourist trips in a Land Rover and he has always described it as a bit of an epic road!
The 7A that runs West-East along the mountains is a great road but was unsurfaced most of the way from Petrosani to the 67C, tarmac after that. Good graded surface most of the way but would be tricky in the wet, especially on a loaded GS.
I'm sure Gavin Bell will be along soon to add more, he lives out there now so has decent local knowledge.
The 7C Transfagarasian is definitely worth considering as an alternative. Fantastic road, fantastic views and recently voted the best road in Europe by Top Gear. The hotel in the link I posted earlier is worth a night as well, not a luxury place by any means but good food and stunning location:thumb2

Cheers mate,
7C it is then, would like to try the 67C but will have to leave it until SWMBO lets me go somewhere on my own :augie like you say, 2 up on a fully laden GS may be too much like hard work :ymca

Thanks for the heads-up on the hotel, might give it a look. Does it have a bar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
