I'm on the road without my computer/basecamp.

Is there any way to get a gpx file from a iOS device to an Zumo 590? Can download any app that can help with this.

Got a route that I'd like to use and it's quite complex so programming each step into the Zumo will be quite a pain

I believe it might be possible with a wireless USB stick. There are some videos on YouTube but I am at work and have no access, sorry I can't give you the link but search of YouTube should find it.

I think and i stress think as i have never tried it but you may well be able to do it via bluetooth

This might help you: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/415972-Transferring-route-to-Zumo-660-without-Mapsource

Actually, now is a good time to dig out (or go and buy) a map, writing the route - complex or not - onto a sheet of paper. Old school but remarkably reliable, fulfilling and fun, too.

Thanks for the link. That was useful info, but don't have a computer available so no go.

I do have a map and am going to use it, but viewing the gpx file on google maps on a small iPhone to be able to match it to the paper map is generally a pain in the butt.

Also, I don't like having to constantly glance down at my tank bag while riding, and have to stop often to flip the map to the nest section. On a K1300s the bottom half of the top of the tank bag is quite difficult to see if you're tall

Did you ever manage to resolve this? If so, how?

Please correct me if I am wrong but if you have a GPX file on a bluetooth enabled device it must be possible to share that file with another bluetooth enabled device.

I know it is possible to share routes between Nav 5 in this way it is just the processing that may different on say an IOS device against Garmin ?

Your thoughts on this may help some bods

Ha ha bods not heard that for years !! Rick glad your are still in the battalion !

We might think so, redrick, but it's not what I have found. For instance, my Nav V seemed unable to send routes to another latest edition Garmin non-BMW device. That of course assumes that the other device was functioning normally, in a car park in the drizzle I wasn't about to find out. It did though send routes to three other Nav V's without a problem. It's something I'd muck around with if I had a modern non-BMW GPS device to hand.

My Nav V will not stream voice instructions to the Bluetooth radio in my car but I guess it will to a Sena or similar headset.

I guess (and this is way above my pay grade) that you could.... And this is probably total bollox:

(1) Take the microcard out of the device

(2) Attach a card reader to the phone, with the microcard in it

(3) Somehow transfer the route into the correct Garmin folder on the microcard

(4) Transfer the microcard back into the GPS device.... And pray!

I have had a quick look on the www and can't find anyone who has done it or anything similar without using a PC somewhere in the process.

Maybe the Garmin iPhone app has some method? I don't run it, so have never looked.

I take a small MacBook with me on some jaunts to create routes on the fly, or create them in the device itself using the map.... Or don't bother and just rely on good old paper.

PS whoa... I did find this video which shows it being done using an Airstash and an iPad. Which shows that my guess above would work. I assume you could put the iPhone in, in place of the iPad... Not much help to the OP if he didn't have a Bluetooth card reader, an IPad or the associated apps, I guess.

Didn't get it to work. Went back to pen and paper

Spent more time searching than I should have .

The only thing I found was the air stash video you pointed out above. There was a time you could have done this with a jail broken iPhone and the apple camera connection kit, but not with current iOS versions.

Theoretically one could do it with bluetooth, but the Garmin app would have to support it, which it currently does not.

I'll look into it more when I get back and if I find something I'll post it here

I've looked into it further and no luck.

The only way without a computer seems to be the airstash method. I don't have an airstash so haven't tried it myself.

It may work with some tablets like a MS Surface Pro on which I presume one can run Basecamp for Windows.

Just tried to connect my Nav5 to my Ipatch ( the little 10 x 8 chopping board) they seemed to recognize each other for a while then fell out when I tried to "share" a route - err.. trip from my Nav5 to the Ipad.
At that stage I gave up. I did have a .gpx route done in pocket maps ready to send to the Nav5 but could not see an obvious way to send it to the Nav5 even if they wanted to talk to each other. Might be a different brand of Bluetooth??

You could take one of these with you? http://www.ebuyer.com/697250-asus-transformer-t100taf-convertible-pc-t100taf-bing-dk024b
