Transfer maps from Zumo 550 to basecamp?

So I had to pay Garmin another £110 to get a functioning 550, but at least the robbin' bstards put a newer set of maps on the device (City Navigator NT 2010.1 rather than the City Navigator 2008 I had before).

But now I have on set of maps on the GPS and another in Basecamp which sounds like a recipe for disaster. Both show as unlocked, so how do I get the 2010 maps onto my computer?

Try asking Garmin for a backup disc for the maps they have installed on your device. I think you will need a download or disc to put It on your computer.

Well you can use the maps of the GPS in Basecamp if you plug it in but with the 550 it'll be dog slow as I believe that it;s USB1.

As said above; ask Garmin to add that mapping version to your myGarmin account and then run an on-line update. Might be worth checking first as they might possibly have already done just that...
