As Apple like to keep things sewn up, it's relatively easy to transfer music purchased from them, between Apple devices.

In the past, I've managed to restore my complete music library ( including non-Apple purchases ) from my iPhone into a new iTunes account onto a Windows laptop.

Santa brought me a refurbished MacBook Pro, having never used Mac before I'm struggling to achieve the same outcome. The result of which, is that only about 25% of my music has been transferred to the new device from my iPhone.

Anyone know of a simple to use solution. Other than re-purchasing my whole collection from Apple or drag those boxes of cd's down from the loft and start burning them all onto the Mac.

get one of the many mac apps that will drill down into your iphone. i have Phoneview and iRip, both of which will do the job, but there are many others. extract the music files and bung them in itunes on the mac.

...or get iTunes Match, which will also do the job and more. it's a great service but is long winded for what you need and is not immune from problems.

Thanks for the advice guys. :thumb it's much appreciated.

I was told I'd gone over to " the dark side " when I bought my first BMW bike, I guess I've moved into an even darker shade of black now with Apple / Mac.

Your not alone on this side . i have two bmw bikes a bmw car , apple iPad , iPhone and mac book pro. Nothing wrong with having nice stuff,( see how i left the word quality out?)

if and when you restore your iTunes . iTunes match is the way to go

Do you still have the Windows PC? Can't you just transfer the MP3s from old to new then add them to iTunes?

Even on a MAC you can still use Google Play Music, I've switched back to an iPhone but don't use iTunes for anything, all my music is in Google Play, were you can store iirc 25,000 tracks for free. They sync up fine, and play fine through the google play music app on my iPhone, either by streaming, or caching them. It's just another option to consider, not apple bashing.

I tried using iRip but it kept closing down unexpectedly, later found that it seemed to be caused when it encountered podcasts etc, which were stored in iTunes on the iPad. It did manage to transfer over 50% of what I was after and is very straightforward to use.

I then used Senuti which, because it shows which content is already in iTunes on the Mac, allowed me to transfer the music files that were stored between podcasts.

All sorted now ( for now! ).

I've also opted into iTunes match as a further backup and storage saving option on the iPhone's.

Copied my MP3/Amazon downloads into the iTunes folder, downloaded album covers and added as album art.
