Translation help if possible please.

[Ex-Call Centre Chimp]

We've been clearing out my late mother's house this week and have come across a plaque that says:-

"Cuimnhi ort inageroi istigh.".

I've tried the translation pages on Google but they came up with a blank.

Are any of you fabulous people able to tell me what, if anything, it actually means please?

If you make ingeroi to be a derivation of in a croi you get in her heart. I'm no gaelic scolar but that might get you to a better place?

The letter pairs occur in Gaelic - sorry I don’t speak it, but might be worth checking with Irish reference sources.

Ah, okay. Thanx. It was on a plaque along with the dates of my father's birth and death so that makes some sort of sense, I think.

AFAIK...

Istigh means in or inside...

Ort is a version of you...

Perhaps Cuimnhi on the plaque is a mis-spelling of cuimhne, which means memory or remember...

"Cuimnhi ort" probably "Remember".
If it written in old Irish/Gaelic script you may be misinterpreting some letters. Dots above a letter are sigificant too.

Brill. I suspect it's meant to mean 'In memory of' or 'In loving memory of' or something like that.

I ran it by my daughter who teaches & has colleagues fluent in Irish - "Remember me in your heart" is their translation

Jay the spelling is wrong. It should be "Ag cuimhniu ort onar gcroi istigh" Remembering you from our hearts. Literal translation is "Remembering you from our inner heart/heart within"

and Joe Not Yet 70 from Kildare I think

I would agree Jay. Ag cuimhniú ort in ár gchroí istigh. Remembering you in our hearts. Either misread from a damaged sheet or misinterpreted phonetically in the original.

Cuimhní ort 'ina gcroí' istigh. The e is a c. Basically, remembering you in our heart
