Transport from UK

Uncle Gerry needs some advice.
He is buying some stuff for his old 800 G/S in the UK; reconditioned engine and a much lusted after PD tank (to replace the one destroyed in a 2001 accident). Posting is not really on and commercial delivery across that stretch of sea is steep.
Any of you guys know of an economical way of getting it over to old Ireland?
I may take the wife's car over on one of those special deals and collect the stuff or if anyone else wants something brought over I'd take the van (it costs twice what the car would) and split the cost.
Any logistical advice is welcome.
