Hi All,
I'm looking for info about going to Morrocco. I hope to take a spin in April from Dublin, take the ferry to Holyhead, down through Wales, take a ferry over to northen Spain and ride down as far as Morrocco and spend a few days there.
2 questions
- I have alloy wheels on my GS, will I need spoked wheels. Not sure what the roads are like down there and don't really intend doing too much off road but am open to recommendations from anyone who has been there.
- Any recommendations in Wales, Spain and Morocco in terms of accommodation would be appreciated.
Thanks :)

The Roads in Maroc , are comparable if not maybe better than here. Nowt wrong with the Std alloys
Advice , have all your paperwork with matching details.
IE : if your passport says you live in Hse A . Then be sure the Bike is registered to Hse A !
Oh and Enjoy

First reaction : that's a long spin. Have done Dublin to Belfast (no ferry from Dublin just after Xmas), ferry to Stranraer, ride to Portsmouth, ferry to Bilbao, ride to Lisbon (start of Dakar) & then on to Algeceras & finally ferry to Ceuta, gateway to Morocco. By that stage I was bollixed. After nearly two weeks in Morocco I shipped the bike home from Alicante & hopped on a plane.

Second time we flew to Luton, overnight there, flew to Marrakesh & spent the day on a bus going to Ouarzazate to pick up hire bikes for a week before repeating the journey in reverse.

Last time, and the most successful to my mind, we shipped the bikes to Malaga, flew in, collected the bikes & after an overnight near Soto Grande we were in Morocco the next morning. Return was same in reverse. Much less stressful on you & the bike, just as cheap as riding down (once you've factored in ferries, accommodation, food, fuel, wear & tear) & same as renting for a week. Plus you get to spend almost all your holiday in Morocco rather than waste 5-6 days blasting down motorways.

Alloys are fine for Morocco. Most of the roads are better surfaced than those here and by & large the more travelled pistes are in good nick too.

Can't recommend anywhere in Wales or Spain (maybe ask in the Travel section). Most of the good spots in Morocco are listed in the Knowledgebase But you'd be better off taking it one day at a time - there's no point rushing along, trying to get to a recommended place & passing loads of interesting stuff to get there. All but the tiniest villages will have some sort of accommodation.

Just go & have fun ;)

Hope that helps but if you want any further info drop me a PM.

Thanks

Rode down through France over the Alps to Monaco last year and had a ball so looking forward to Spain/Morocco this year. Thanks for the info lads, it makes all the planning easier.
