really good. last year i came into Rosslare on the way home early enough in the morning to hit the Dublin rush hour gridlock which wasn't appreciated on a long journey when you just want to get home.Good Idea Barry. How was the ferry from Cherbourg to Dublin? The older I get the less attracted I am to fighting my way down the big overcrowded Island
Cherbourg to Dublin is a good way of getting home relatively easily. I was first onto the boat which sails at 4pm, get changed and a few pints watching a band on the deck as the boat began the 'cruise' home, then bit of dinner followed by a band in the bar at 9pm and early to bed.
Off the boat c.10.30, through the port tunnel and booted up to Moira for 12. I would thoroughly recommend it as we did the spain ferry out which is a bit longer but on your way home you just want to get there.

Top Tip, if getting off a Dublin Port ferry and heading anywhere except Dublin city centre use the port tunnel, sign posted for airport and M50. OK you will pay a toll and maybe M50 toll also but it gets you away from the city traffic which can be a real pain.

I’ve booked to try it out in September, off to catch up with some old mates in Belgium. Now that I live in the far SW, travelling to Europe via the Leeward Island seems unnecessary.

Next day a route to another area and repeat.

I ship a few trucks per week on the new Hibernia Line route and after a few teething problems it is doing pretty well. They have two ships servicing the route mv St Patrick and mv Akka and the crossing takes about 24 hours which works well for us.There’s a new ferry going directly from Cork to Boulogne.

They were offering a summer sale introductory discount for bikes too.
€460 for bike and rider, with an outside cabin each way. I’ve paid £350 for Belfast-Liverpool, so I’m happy with that.
I was told that for now tickets are only available from Hibernia directly, not yet available through agencies.
by far the best way to buy as you get much better protection from EU/International law if you buy a ticket from the ferry operator rather than a reseller
Not any old reseller - I’ve used Nutt Travel for years, and I’d trust them to see me right.
I tried them for this trip, it’s them who told me Hibernia Line are only selling direct for now.
Hopefully they will be able to gain enough of a foothold in the market to survive in the long-term.
I was talking to a senior person in Irish Ferries today who was scoffing that Hibernia are only averaging between 15 and 20 freight units per voyage.
They will though need to be better established with the freight shippers in order to last through the long winter months.
It is a harsh economic fact that it is us, the year round freight traffic, that keep the routes viable for the summertime tourists such as yourself @Fireblade
It is interesting though to note that before Brexit there were about twelve direct sailings per week from Ireland to the mainland of Europe and now that number is over fifty and the more the better. Not having to transit the big island to our east is a very attractive option to very many people and businesses.

Sailed out of Rosslare or Cherbourg in early August. The total eclipse of the sun on Aug 12th in Spain was the ultimate attraction. The Carnac alignments were a secondary attraction. In effect, a Bonnie Tyler (RIP) tour - lost in France & total eclipse.
Returned on Bilbao Rosslare route; a long day on the boat but it beats slogging through "ordinary", overheated France for the umpteenth time.
The total eclipse truly gobsmacked me - some say I needed my gob smacked.

Northern Spain is incredible.
Head east imo , avoid Andorra , N260 road is staggering, the twistiest roads there and off it like I’ve never seen.
Ferry is great , relaxed getting off part of the trip. Enjoy
