This question or ones very similar to it comes up quite regularly.

Here is a list of those named. Please note:

1. These are recommendations made by forum members. They are not
YOU; make sure that whatever YOU buy suits YOU, not them. Always check for yourself.

2. Policies and insurers DO change. Just because something was good yesterday, does not necessarily meant it is still good today or tomorrow. See point 1.

3. Some insurers offer different levels of cover. One bod might have bought a level, which might not suit
YOU. See point 1.

4. I have excluded any references to policies sold or given away free by banks and the like. Why? As a minimum it might require you opening up a new bank account, just to go on holiday. Many will not find it worth it. Equally, if you already hold an account with the bank, you probably know what your bank offers.

Richard, I am assuming as this is a (proper big) mostly Adventure motorcycle forum, the above mentioned insurance providers do cover one to ride motorcycles above 125cc, whist abroad?

Personally I am currently insured with Voyager travel Insurance. Albeit, I am not overly clear with he level of cover where motorcycles are concerned. When taking the policy out over the phone, I had asked whether I would be covered to ride motorcycles over 125cc and the answer was yes. Having reread the wording document, I can see, under the Personal Injury) that "You are not covered for:

A. Claims resulting from motorcycling"

However, the on Page 21 it says that I am covered to ride motorcycles, providing I hold a full licence. I am confused.

yes, at the time the recommendations were made in the other post(s) R used to make this consolidation

all of the above are brokers and periodically they will change underwriter so T&C might change next week, next month or next year

one needs to check at the time of the quote, before purchase, by looking at the full policy terms (usually a PDF provided which can be searched)

I agree that one must check everything properly on their own terms.
I have just edited my previous post. The wording suggest..... please see above.

re. your query - read your bike insurance policy, there is an element of personal injury cover for loss of sight, loss of a limb or use thereof and death for the rider. A pillion would be claiming for personal injury on your bike policy's third party cover.

Hence, a travel policy does not cover personal injury when riding a bike as this would duplicate the cover. This is personal injury as defined in the wording above, not getting a paper cut or breaking a leg, which would be a medical claim. Definitions as given in the policy are key, not what a chap in the pub says

See item post #1, point 1.

:beerjug:

I simply pulled the names from the most recent thread on the topic.

I think when i used Navigator, it was along the lines of

Bronze level cover - motorcycles not covered

To obtain cover for motorcycling upgrade to Silver or Gold cover

I went for Silver if i recall

See post #2 point 3.

This emphasises post 2’s point 1. It all comes back to what suits YOU not what suited someone else. Always check for yourself.

Indeed, it was more to highlight that mc cover is available if you have the right level of cover, as you say you need to check

So, I have just taken out this insurance from voyager and phoned them to ask explicitly the question 'if i have an accident on a motorbike, am I covered for medical expenses' and the answer is Yes.

The bit that says 'not covered for motorcycling' is in the event of your death or a permenant bodily injury where you will not be entitled to a big payout. However, I would assume that most people would have this through other means.

Cheers

Steven

I've taken a few different policies with Voyager over the last few years and found them very helpful on the phone for bike specific holidays or where bikes are involved in some way. If the motorcycling cover was not explicitly stated in the policy they have found out from the underwriters and got back to me.

They will have my business for the foreseeable if that is any help to anyone.

Just took a policy out with BeMoto motorcycle travel insurance for my 6-week jaunt around the EU. With pills and all.

However, as with most types of insurance, it is the 'wording' and 'small print' that comes into being if shit hits the fan.

Reason I take things slow and easy.

annual travel renewal invitation came through and Allclear are taking the piss, seeking £85 for the silver policy covering my medical stuff
quotes from Tesco, a bit cheaper. Only £61 last year with £15 Topcashback.
Topcashback Compare - rebadged Moneysupermarket with cashback - 78 quotes including an offshoot of Voyager (recommended here previously) called Able2Travel. This company specialises in over 50s with medical stuff but will take most people!
Premium offered just under £54 with £12 cashback so net £42 for silver level. Motorcycle riding with the usual caveats about helmets and no personal liability or accident cover as this is within your bike policy.
Policy wording: https://www.voyageroasis.co.uk/documents/voyager/Able2Travel2024_CYTI_PolicyWording_V6.pdf
Policy administered by Allianz's UK office (same as current policy with Allclear) and underwritten by AWP P&C, a division of Allianz. Effectively, the same silver level policy I have had for the last year at half the cost Allclear are seeking.
All very efficient with documents emailed and a link to add them to Google/Apple wallet.

https://www.able2travel.com/useful-links/help-faqs/ to buy direct
If you want to enjoy the additional benefit of cashback then use my affiliate link https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/wessie if you do not have an account and look for their insurance comparison tool.

Thanks for the info however,

1. They charge £ 10 to run a phone quote so, on to the online quote I go ...
2. One of the first questions asked refers to pre-existing conditions, one of which is -
  1. any type of breathing or lung related condition (such as asthma)?
I tick "Yes" as I may have copd and immediately, a black flag pops up telling me I can't have this insurance and I can't proceed any further.

F'ing useless to me then.

Didn't even get to tell them about a tiny basal cell carcinoma!

Maybe I either don't bother with insurance or I lie.

This is supposed to be an insurance company able to provide cover for "older" people and will provide cover if you have all manner of ailments, including cancer to heaven only knows what else. Tell them you get a bit short of breath occasionally and you're fecked.

EDIT:
Oh wait, I unticked the question -
  1. Any medical condition for which you are on a waiting list for or have the knowledge of the need for surgery, treatment or investigation at a hospital, clinic or nursing home.
and I can now carry on with the quote. So it's a day surgery op for a basal cell carcinoma that is done under local anaesthetic. Looks like that's what blocked the quote, not the COPD.

Apologies but, the rest stands.

ANOTHER EDIT:
I got to put in two ailments - COPD and the carcinoma and was able to generate quotes - NO QUOTES FOUND

As I said before, useless to me.

I ticked that box and was accepted. I have sleep apnoea and use a CPAP. Plus 3 other declared conditions I take medication for.

Try Allclear

Thanks. Just run a quote with Voyager. No questions about health whatsoever, which is a bit weird!

I'm just wondering if by ticking the "annual multi trip" on the previous quote somehow threw it out as I want the policy to start from June 26th, i.e. more than 30 days away. Nothing flagged to tell me that but, Voyager declined a quote on first pass telling me this. Run a single short stay trip quote and all good.

I'm now wary that I got a quote with no medical questions asked !!! :ROFLMAO:

did you read the "we are making these assumptions" box at the start and tick you agree? I would not be happy without my medical stuff listed on the schedule.

I have nearly been caught out by that with motor quotes as I have to declare the CPAP to DVLA and insurers. They are getting better, presumably as the number of older drivers increases, at including the health question as a mandatory one like driving experience.

Hi, just off the phone with Staysure (I called as I have a pre-existing condition - minor op to remove a basal cell carcinoma fyi ! ) expecting to conclude the quote and buy the insurance policy.

Staysure DO NOT provide insurance if you are travelling on a motorcycle, if it is more that 125cc.

Well, that's a fat lot of good then !
