I rode home last night in normal rain shower. When I got home I found both panniers and the top box swimming in water.

My laptop was in one of these panniers and it was dead when I went to start it up. I had to take it apart  and dry it out overnight. Thankfully is started again.

I have to say I am less than impressed with SW Motech's workmanship. According to Terry Ryan these buggers still leak even after sealing up the side with silicon. :blast

anyone else had a similar experience?

Got Trax Panniers on the 1200 and never had a leak. The seams on mine came well caulked with silicone from new.

Probably got a friday afternoon set.

I find the lid seals slip out of position over time resulting in some leakage. If the lid is easily closed without the need for some additional downward force, you probably have seals that require repositioning. Just push the seal back firmly onto the lip inside the lid all the way round, and you should be leak tight again. :)

I found this on mine too whereas the wifes set doesn't. Contacted SW Motech (The UK distributor still hasn't replied ) and they said I had the "old" style seal and they sent me two new ones (foc :)) which look more like the ones on my wifes. Haven't fitted them yet (a job for the weekend) but hope that fits the bill.

Have also had some leaks but have put them down to the seal - will let you know if the new one fixes the problem

I've noticed that the water is getting in through the bottom corners. I don't know why those seals are not glued into position.

Bummer  OK Will look there as well - am thinking of using polyurethane sealant rather than silicon as it is slightly more rugged I think - but then again what do I know?:D

Mine leaked like a sieve (Note past tense)

They're made like a kids cut out on the back of a cornflake packet, folded in to shape and rivetted. The corners have no alloy, just a piece of plastic to fill the 'hole' in! People say that the BMW panniers are expensive but at leasted they are welded alloy and much much stronger, and well worth the extra bier tokens in my book :thumb

The trax frames are crap too, held together with half turn zuz fasteners (on the 800 at least) they're 4" wider than the BM panniers and a lot of wasted space between the bike and panniers :(

1) A drop from standstill twisted the frames and mounts
2) Only plastic, no allow behind

Thin smear of clear silicone round the edges fixed it for mine 1000 miles round Scotland in really wet weather bone dry:thumb

I had the same happen to mine, leaked in the bottom but i have now pumped a load of silicon into the corners and so far so good!:clap
