Just wondering why the BMW charger that I had for my GS doesn't work when I plug it in to my aux socket on my GSA??? It just comes up with ERROR!!
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this please.
Cheers

Do you have any hardwired accessories, sat-nav, intercom etc? If so these seem to interfere with the BMW charger.......I bought the same and now have to disconnect the common negative I have from all the add ons to allow the charger to work :blast

That is is very good bet. :thumb2

As the charger sends a current 'backwards' to the battery, some may leak through to whatever peripherals you have added, an Autocom for example. The Canbus system may interpret this as an unknown draw (which indeed it is) and shut the system down.

Autocom make a widget that fools the Canbus so that it does not 'see' the Autocom when being 'backwards' powered.

I think Tonedeaf and Wapping have it right. After 3 years of working fine, mine did the same thing after I'd put a BMW line-splitter on the connector to the aux socket to power the relay that feeds my Centech fuse panel. For some reason neither the Canbus liked the splitter when the bike was running and the charger didn't like it whenI wanted to trickle the battery. I removed the line splitter, found and different source to power the Centech and everyhting's fine again. Good luck! :comfort

Thanks guys

Thanks for all the useful info guys, my non technical brain will now try to re wire the Autocom/Zumo!!:comfort

All sorted

Cheers guys, all sorted. Ran a male and female lead from the battery so that when I need to put her on charge I can just unplug the Autocom and plug in the charger, not being a technical wizard it was the simplest solution!
Thanks again for your input.

I just fitted a secondhand BMW switch next to the Aux light switch on the GSA, then powered the auto com Via switch.

Give me two options it won't affect the BMW charger ie no power when switched off, also I can switch off the comms when talking to someone else (ie when stopped) without deafing the pillion.

Hi Cheffy,

silly thought but you did put a line fuse in the positive feed as it came off the battery?

Cheers

Mine does too. Worked absolutely fine doing the ignition on/plug in charger/ignition off thing. Soon as I connected the Garmin 660 cradle to the canbus I started to get error lights on the charger.
Now have an optimate lead installed which works all the time no probs.
