Has anyone on here actually managed to get close enough to the battery to connect their Optimate leads, or can you just plug into the fag lighter socket?

If so I need to get the adaptor, but would Optimate or CTek be the better choice as I have both?

Sorry in advance if this has been done to death. :thumby:

I bought the BMW Charger. £99.
Straight into the 12V outlet on the dash.
it ticks all the boxes.
Talks to the bike, through the Canbus, BMW din socket fitted. Peace of mind for me.

I have a C-TEK smart charger, I connected one of their cables to the terminals behind the black plastic triangle on the off-side of the bike.

I bought the cable that indicates how well the battery is, I also converted my Airman pump to run off the C-TEK socket.

Excellent, Thanks! :thumby:

Out of curiosity anyone know what the clicky knob just below your positive connection is for?

I was couldn't help but play with it when my side panel was off. :blast

I connect the optimate lead to an additional hella type socket which I attached to the triangular plastic panel on the left side. I have Oxford Maximiser and a CTek chargers both fitted with hella plugs. The socket provides easy access for things like electric pumps or other accessories but also makes connecting the charger so easy. Avoids all the Canbus issues. Had one on my GS LC for couple of years with no problems and just fitted to a 16MY GSA.

The cap unscrews and that's where the dealer plugs into the bike.

Yes, all a lot clearer today out in the sunshine where I could actually see what I was doing.

Anyhow, CTek lead now fitted and charging like a good 'un! :beerjug:

I have an Optimate 4 and as soon as the Gs goes in the garage I whip the seat off and connect it up with the crocodile clips .. literally a 30 second job. All is well.

Does this work on the new GS as it doesn't look like you can get to the battery terminals from under the seat in the pictures above, side panel only ?

Just fitted the optimate lead to the battery. The service book has good battery removal and reinstall info. It really is a doddle.
I never bother taking them off again and hope the next owner appreciates it.
Any issues give a shout.
