Trier to French Alps

Good evening all,

Following on from the above posts (I'm in planning mode) I am looking for any pointers for a stop over between Pontarlier and Briancon (about half way ish)

I have looked at various routes / maps but there are loads to choose from and was hoping for some input, with the wealth of experience you guy's have got, that could shed some light onto a decent place / town within walking distance to local pubs / restaurants

Annecy would seem the obvious choice, it’s bang in the middle and it’s a lovely place to visit

The Ibis in the center is perfectly located and you can park bikes under the arches around the back

the Logis Hotel in Doussard at the quieter end of Lake Annecy is okay.

If you're not camping I recommend this hotel in Trier. They have off road parking, an indoor pool, a micro brewery on site and a lovely beer garden. I've stayed at his hotel several times enroute to the Alps.

Conflans, which is the old part of Albertville, is very pretty. I haven't stayed there, but passed through. You can ride up to the old fort above Albertville (Fort du Mont) on a very pretty but very twisty road. Looks like there are a couple of hotels within the old part of Conflans.
