There have been a few posts about fuel gauge inaccuracies or failures. Often the advice is "use the trip meter". Well, my fuel gauge is ok (so far) but lately sometimes my trip meter button has no effect when pressed. Won't change from displaying total mileage (odometer) to trip 1 & trip 2, so sometimes I can't reset the trip.
It's only sometimes, isn't cured by switching the ignition off and back on again, cures itself after a while, doesn't seem to happen with any predictability (sometimes in wet weather, sometimes not, etc). No amount of pressing, trying to press different ways, etc, makes any difference. It either works dead easily as normal or it doesn't. You just have to leave it and then try again later until it decides to co-operate.
Any ideas?

Trip switch

Thanks, Mike & Spout. Looks like I'll have to be taking the switchgear apart at some point. At least it's my trip switch that is intermittent, rather than the indicators as on the thread Spout gave. I can live without knowing how far I've gone, but I wouldn't want indicators with minds of their own.....

Are you on about the button on the clocks? If so the linked post isn't going to help you much as they are different. If you are on about the info button though on the switchgear then the link is what your after.

trip switch

it's the button on the LHS switchgear that toggles through odo, trip1, trip 2 and resets the trips if you press longer, so the thread covers it

Doesn't work like that on mine but maybe that's the difference between having the computer or not or could simply be how the older models work. Apologies if I caused any confusion.

Doesn't work like that on mine either - I have the computer - the button on the speedo switches between the ODO and the trips. The button on the LH switchgear has no effect at all.
