A couple of Irish Tossers are planning a trip to Scotland in June. We are thinking of basing ourselves in the Fort William area and heading out on runs from there.
Any advice of campsites, crackin roads and runs would be great.:beerjug:

Just before you get to Fort Bill you'll pass through Ballachulish. There's a good site called Red Squirrel but best of all is the Clachaig Inn within staggering distance.

You can't really go wrong from Fort Bill.

Head up the Great Glen (further up the A82) and cut off for Isle of Skye. Applecross and the Bealach na Ba (Pass of the cattle) is a must do when up that way. Plockton is worth a little visit.

If you want a good stretch of the legs, continue up to Ullapool and then leg it back down to Inverness and then back down the Glen on the A82.

If you want any info on further North, just let me know. I'm sure some of the guys on here can give you good info on runs around Loch Tay etc.

Stop at the Green Welly Shop in Tyndrum on the A82, buy some Avon Skin So Soft!
It keeps the midgies away.

(Go West) Life is peaceful there
(Go West) In the open air
(Go West) Where the skies are blue
(Go West) East coast is shit :thumb2

Glen Nevis campsite outside of Fort William is one of the best campsites anywhere.
A few miles out of Fort William but there's a regular bus if you want a drink.

Glen Nevis campsite is one of the best in the area, but don’t overlook Linnhe on the A830 or the Lochy caravan & camping site.
Good runs are difficult to avoid whatever direction you take. Carry on out the A830 to Mallaig and Skye or turn at Lochailort and round to Strontian and the Ardnamurchan peninsula where you are at the UK`s most northerly point. Come back via Corran ferry onto the A82 8 miles South of the Fort.
Don’t overlook the less beaten tracks, Kinlochourne is favourite of mine. Everyone wants to do Bealach na Ba, and thats for a good reason, but have a look through some old posts in the SS for the real wee gems.
Hope you get the weather, its not been biking weather here for a good few months, I've been neglecting my bike terribly and could do with a day out on ma bike.
There is nowhere in Scotland (mainland) that is not a day run from the Fort.
Enjoy :thumb2

Oonyack used the full allocation of the word "West" and BHT has installed new software, when one area is recommended too much it defaults back to just North :augie :D

Check Calmac (caledonian macbrayne) if you fancy going island hopping. If you book on line, you can get various routes, But you also need to book a space on the actual ferry as they can get booked out. We did this last year and the guys are really friendly and helpful. Be aware that sunday is still very much a religious day on the isles so most things are shut.

Did a little write up about a 5 day break last August in the Ride Report section.

A bit tame for most of the adventure types on here, but we based ourselves at Ballachulish, just out of Fort William and we had a brilliant time.

Several roads mentioned in the report.

You'll love it up there but don't tell anyone cos it's a secret!
