I am off to the Isle of Wight on Sunday (from Taunton, Somerset), can anyone recommend:

a) Any decent stretch of roads nearer to Bournemouth, scenic routes etc.
b) Any decent cafes on the island

Many thanks guys :-)

You could try the A3030 from Sherborne and then the A357 through Sturminster Newton to Blandford. From Blandford I would suggest the B3082 Badbury rings road to Wimborne. After that I would take the A31 past Ringwood and then cut across the New Forest to I presume Lymington.

If you have time you could pop into Sammy Miller's Museum. Interesting bikes and a good cafe. :thumb2 Its at Bashley, just North of New Milton. Signed off the A35.

If you decide to head down the A37 the rozzers have their lazers out like luke skywalker on the death star from about Wardon Hill all the way to Bere Regis, they like their mobile cameras as well, have a good ride:thumb2

Sammy Millers motorcycle museum was a great place to stop, bikes a little before my time but still a great collection and some great (if not slightly expensive) food.

Ended up going through the New Forest, good times, but ended up getting dive bombed by a bird, bad times.

Cheers Guys

You will find decent cafes on all the promenades but one of my favourites is a cafe at Fort Victoria at Yarmouth, not cheap, but fish and chips to die for.

Well u would have been to the iow by now but one cafe I could have recommended is "the end of line cafe" in Freshwater next to the co-op, very nice, home cooked cakes and good parkin.

So how did the trip go, which ferry crossin did you use out of the 3 ?

Glad You enjoyed Sammy Millers. I think they've got an interesting selection of bikes.

Sorry to hear about the bird. Guess it came off worse than you.

Loads of bikes :D, don't worry Rick, luckily I ducked really quickly and it almost hit my girlfriend on the back... is that a good thing?

Let's hope she doesn't read this :D
