Triple Black is 11 hours away....

Hi

PM sent on the "deal" I got.

I changed for a number of reasons some linked to finance [bought 800gs on BMW finance and could not stump up the final payment so I have rolled the final payment over for another 3 years], I always wanted one and the time seemed right, by the time I added on the extended warranty [risk averse me], 12000 mile service the actual costs were not much different and finally I enjoyed the more relaxed yet significantly more powerful ride. A minor but not yet proven reason could be a more comfier bike.

The only real test is go and have a ride - I spent about 2 hours on the 1200 and was smitten. When I rode the 800gs back home still enjoyed it but for my next few trips [much longer than last years] the 1200gs offers a greater expectation.

So go and try one you will know pretty quickly if the 1200 is for you.

Hi Johnboy

Hope you are enjoying your new Triple Black.

I have got a couple of questions if you don't mind answering them for me, as I am thinking about this move with my f800gs to the Triple Black.

1. Why did you want to move from the 800 to the 12?
2. How much of a trade did you for the 800?
3. Is the ride different or better?

Thanks for your time.

Cheers

Titch

Moved up to Triple Black a couple of months back from my 990 KTM ADV. Never thought i'd see the day i would shift the ktm, but after a day on the demo bike i was seduced !
2k Miles now and a very happy convert ! :thumb2

well it happened...

...not at traffic lights but when my son got off:blast

Imagine the scene: rural Berkshire, cool but clear evening as I pull up outside the scout hut with my son feeling proud [and more comfortable than the 800gs pillion seat] on the ultra black :blast"bi bike". We are slightly late I suspect quietly achieved by my son for best effect in front of his mates.

Usual routine: he taps me on the shoulder, I brace myself and off he gets. This time a rather exaggerated swing of his leg, bike starts to go:eek:, I think b****r and away she goes. I then realize that she's still in gear so everybody [20 scouts and 2 leaders] have the pleasure of seeing a motorbike do a slow 360 degree pirouette on its side.

All I can say is thank god for the cylinder head covers installed at the weekend:(.

I picked him up an hour and half later and the leader comes up and says it must be hard getting to know how to use the new gears - my son had explained the fall on the newness of the bike and me not knowing how to use it yet. What wonderful imagination they have.

So less than a week and a small spill - I will learn from this.

Happy biking.:thumb2

Johnboy

watch out for steep cambers when you pull up at traffic lights / kerbs etc - its a tad heavier than your old machine

Just did the same thing, traded in my '09 F800 GS 24,000 good
miles for the Triple Black (just couldn't resist it) picked it up
today and so far (only 100 miles, bleeding hail stones!) no regrets
I was a bit worried as I liked my F800 GS a lot. The 1200 GS is
a different beast thou.

Bummer on your drop, point taken, will pick up a set of cylinder head guards
soon... :)

Happy trails.

Picked mine up today from Sunderland & was amazed that I managed 170 miles up to Kielder & on into Scotland (just) without getting wet! Haven't had a GS since 2007, but this one is the db's. The free panniers was a nice addded bonus as I'd agreed my trade in about 8 weeks ago.

for those that traded there 800gs like myself for the big 12 wait till you see how much it drinks fuel  compared to the 800 .

Ah - not so for me. 800gs typically read 54 mpg for all journeys although fully loaded with panniers at 85mph it dropped to 48:eek: On a 190 mile A272 Winchester to Haywards and back via Brighton today the Triple Black gave me 53mpg and the biggest grin ever. 4th gear rolling overtake - wow wow wow:thumb:thumb:thumb:clap:clap:clap:clap

My step father has a TRIPLE BLACK and is very pleased with it, he traded an 06 1200GS for an 800S/T recently and realised his mistake before he'd had the 1st service done, he traded it for a low suspension TRIPLE BLACK within weeks and has just returned from a 3000 mile Euro tour a very happy man :D
He asked me to produce a sticker for his bike, as he has volunteered to be the "Guinea Pig" for this product I thought I would show the result;

The R1200 section is made from Black over Silver reflective vinyl and the TRIPLE BLACK wording is made from Silver reflective vinyl, both parts are on 1 piece of transport tape and are pre-spaced and aligned so application is straightforward and easy, these will be available on my website soon.
