Triton

Time for an update & some progress pics.

Still waiting for the fuel & oil tanks, these are holding things up badly now, I need the fuel tank in particular so that I can sort the tank mountings & steering stops before the frame can be painted. I was told they would be done at the end of January, now told that it will be mid April  they better be good when they do arrive.

Wheels are now done, new spokes, rims & tyres. The engine casing's have now gone for blasting & polishing, barrels have been blasted & powder coated gloss black, brake linkages chromed, clocks are done & new clock bracket & mounting brackets are being machined.

1st outing in today's sun, although the frame still needs painting I think it's starting to show promise.

It’s a labour of love.
Love always requires patience. :D
Looking good, can I have a go when yir finished mister :bounce1

Looking good Cookson :thumb

I've got just the thing for you here. It's Jim Elderfields Triton engine. A seriously well sorted bit of kit (4 plugs, slickshift box and lots of quality mods tucked away). Jims a nice bloke I'm sure he wouldn't mind you thrashing it for a while :D

Making a start on it this week Jim :)

Mmmmm. would'nt mind giving that a try :thumb2

You say your making a start on it, what you doing with it ??

Mine won't be anywhere near that trick, just balanced, ported & polished, cams etc.

Talking of cams, what would be a good pair of cams, fast road stylee. Should I ring Nourish & talk to them ?

:)

I'd ring Nourish. They are very helpfull. I had the very last Puma timing case from them, around 20 years ago, we had to grub about under the workbench to find one he'd dropped down the back :)

Years ago everybody put 11:1 pistons in but with the crap fuel now they would pink badly. My Triton had Joiner & Somerton cams:- huge things that needed the crank cases machining to get them in and lowish comp pistons. TBH you cannot go wrong with E3134s, Inlet and exhaust, for normal quickish riding.

Jim just wants to know whats inside the engine and if it's in good nick. I've got all the Triumph tools and have rebuilt quite a few over the years so I'm having a look for him.

Thanks Rob.

I'll give Nourish a call on the cams.

This is my 1st Triumph engine build, now I know you've built a few, (you should'nt have told me that) I'll be giving you a shout if I get any problems/questions.

:D

Heres the last one I did. My mate fell off it in 1981 and it stood around untill I decided to do something with it 3 years ago.

:D :D

Better than my Omlette attempt.

Thats a very tidy freezer that is, thought i'd get in first cos some one will be along shortly to say otherwise:augie

I'm not very impressed with your prop stand Cookson:D

The rest looks stunning though:thumb

I rebuilt a unit 650 Triumph for my brother many years ago, the daft bugger took it straight out onto the M4 and proceeded to seize it..................

Freezers tidy cause there's bugger all in it. :D

As for the prop stand, your right, I think I'll have to find a better one.

:)

Something I prepared a little earlier............

I'm quite keen on this older stuff. Here's my '65 Atlas. Not quite as good as the Beemer for the the distance work. Not quite as fast either, or comfy, or oil tight, or easy to start; - not as good on the brakes either; In fact it's in a completely different league. It can be more fun though.

The Mc Candless Brothers only ever intended a Norton Motor
in that Cradle

I take it that you won't want any pics of the Wideline Norton/Kawasaki Z750 i'll be building over the Winter ? :augie

And before anyone blows a gasket,i've bought a Rolling Chassis with no engine or gearbox plates,so it ain't like i'm butchering a bike.

Putting anything Japanese in a Featherbed frame is butchery - especially a Z750 engine :(
