anyone have one kicking about???

Rob,

I have one that I'm probably not going to use now, as it looks like I'll be using a winglet socket instead to run my nav/comms bag.

Let me subscribe properly (been meaning to do this for ages) and then you can pm me.

hi,

After speaking with about 10 dealers i have managed to track a socket down and its going in the post tomorrow .... would have had your otherwise.. sorry for that but I am 100% sure if u put it in the buy/sell someone will have it quite quick!

Of all the dealers i spoke to they all had back orders of about 20 - 30 and have been waiting for 2 or 3 weeks for delivery.... scarce part!

Dolph, how much is it, as I need one also.
It is a length of cable with a plug at one end and a aux power socket at the other....?

Timpo.

Timpo,

It's got the CANBUS socket on one end, 3 unterminated leads on the other (+ve, -ve, speed pulse IIRC). Wire it up however you like to suit your needs

I'm going with the winglet socket as being more versatile, plus the satnav (TomTom 720) lives in the top of the bag, as I'm not splashing out on yet another nav unit just for the bike!

I think it was about £8 from the dealers, yours for nuppence if you want it, can't be bothered messing around sending money for something so small.

If Timpo doesn't want it I will take it off your hands, and I'll pay for it as well

Cheers

Got mine from Jim at Southport Superbikes, ordered in afternoon arrived in post early next morning, about £11 inc p and p AIR, top service

Dolph, that's a deal.:thumb2
Right, although I live in Cheshire, I am visiting Gerrards Cross, Bucks on the 12/13/14th July, so I could catch you then.
I'm not too keen on putting my mobile on an open forum although many here have it. Can you take PMs yet?
As soon as you can, please send me one with your number on it and I'll give you a call.

Regards.
Timpo.

yep i saw your post before and gave them a call - spoke with a very nice lady who knew exactly the part i wanted.... 25 on back order and they have been waiting delivery for about 3 weeks. shame as i think they would offer a great service.

I've been trying to get one of these plugs too. My dealer have been wonderfully helpful regarding every other request I've made, but they are adamant that I can't have one of these. They actually say they are not allowed to order them in to use in their own workshop any more. So that might explain the large number of back-orders around.

I did wonder at first if it was really because BMW now have their own version of Zumo for sale in the UK (apparently every dealer should now have at least one in stock), but the official cable as a spare part is not available to order yet anyway - apparently it will be another month.

In the end I've decided to have an official auxiliary socket fitted near the bars during the first service. Unlike the CANbus plug, the aux plug is very easy to get, and as easy as a household electrical plug to fit - no soldering skills required :). I was reluctant at first, but now I've had time to think about it, I think its the better solution. Cos when the Zumo cradle is on the bike but the Zumo isn't, it looks rubbish. I'm not going to take the Zumo on more than 50% of my journeys. It will be the work of a moment to remove the RAM mount and unplug from auxiliary, but with the CANbus plug I would have been fiddling around under the oil cooler all the time.

There is quite some price difference obviously. A dealer-fitted aux socket is about £100 more than a CANbus plug if you can find a supplier.

Sorry Timpo, been snowed under with work this week, will try and remember to register tonight, and the dig the connector out to make sure. It should be in my parts bin (was last time I checked) but there's no point if I can't find it now!

AAAAHHGGGG now someone tell me whats difficult about making an order and putting it in the post?? Some numpty has not managed to do this or even deduct anything from my credit card so here i am waiting for it to arrive and now I know why.... why do i have to deal with complete idiots all the time!

Rant over i guess... so if someone has a socket please let me know and ill buy it from you.

I spoke to Becky at Southport Superbikes today and they are expecting plugs in the next few days, she thought they had enough for back orders and a few spare, it might be worth giving them a call to check.....
