Now I used to true up buckled pushbike rims all the time when I was a kid and would probably manage OK with the BM GS spoked rims, but wanted to know if there is any particularly recommended place that trues spoked wheels in or near London. If so, how much?

wheel builders i've spoken to say it can't be done on BMW rims. you have to get it right on first build or start again.

So i f there is a slight buckle in it, then it may well have come that way from BMW ?

i'm sure i read here somewhere that 2mm run out is allowed by bmw.

sounds a lot to me.

Be careful if you give it a go as I think the spoke nipple is locked by a grubscrew in the end and that will need backing off if adjustment is to be made IIRC (sorry if that's wrong or a grandmother sucking egg situation)

Lateral and vertical run out is 1.5mm max

Centring lateral runout, rear-wheel rim

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note

The procedure for centring the wheel involves tightening the spoke nipples opposite the point of maximum out-of-true.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Attention
An attempt to straighten the wheel rim by turning only one spoke to take up all the runout can cause stress to build up in the spoke and the rim. Under load, this can cause the spoke to break or the rim to deform.

Never attempt to correct all the runout by tightening only one or two spokes.

Slacken grubscrew (1). Correct lateral runout by tightening the spokes opposite the point of maximum deviation.

It does seem that the wheels are coming from BMW already bent! Took mine back to the dealers and he says that the 'fluttering' of the front wheel that I can see and feel whilst riding is within BMW specs.................sounds like crap to me! This is my 6th BMW with cross spokes and they have never been anything other than perfectly true.

So what gives now? Have BMW allowed their wheel suppliers to save a few bucks and provide wheels that are not round?

I have just fitted new tires - went from Anakee to Tourance and am now feeling even more vibration, especially under braking - great!
