Touratech street panniers, the ally boxes that fit to standard BMW rails.. Some on flea bay, what are they like, anyone know?
And why do people put a starting bid on and fix a higher reserve price, what the fu*ck is the point of that. Just list your starting price as the minimum you'll take.

Yep, I'd also like to hear from people who're using them... :)

IMHO the point of the starting bid vs reserve is that it'll scare fewer pontential bidders away, plus it gives the seller the option to do a second chance offer if the reserve hasn't been met but he can live with the highest bid.

They're covered in the Panniers FAQ, picshures an' all! :)

mate has a pair. they have no cross brace at the back & so sag inwards when loaded. not impressed myself.

Did some research myself as I was interested, apart from what cookie says, it looks like as the EO rails are plastic, the metal latch of the panniers quickly digs a hole into them :nono ... They seem to be more for show or light use (100% motorways/city) than heavy duty / any kind of off-road, even minor. I went for the special system (narrower, tougher, same capacity), and I don't regret it! I would never go back to my OE panniers now...

Cheers for that. Won't bother with em, for the little I use them I'll stick with the BMW handbags I've got at he moment. Just thought about floging them when I saw 2 panniers on flea bay - 7 bids £155 reserve not met and 5 days to go

Where did you find this out.
Ive had no problems with mine. They are a really snug fit on the rails and no wear is evident yet.
I was going to make a quickly detachable brace to fit between the boxes at the back which would stop any sagging inwards ( which I havnt noticed so far).

I find the ease of removal, and the fact that there is no scaffolding left behind when they are not on the bike, suits me fine. Either that, or you have them fitted all the time, which is a bit longwayroundish.
I dont think Id have tin boxes if I had to have some of the brackets I have seen sprouting everywhere.
I know the bike is ugly, but there is a limit surely.

I guess we can't all be as erudite as Darklord can we, but he is correct in his assumption and because eBay recommended I did .... and just think, if I hadn't you might have slagged off someone who had a thin skin :dabone

Guess you won't be buying them anyway will you?

Also the guy from Touratech France himself (Yvon, who is very helpful and knowledgeable) advised against it. He said if you're doing 100% on road, don't plan to put any heavy load in them, and don't mind the fact they're wider than the special set, maybe, but he wouldn't have bought them for himself :nono . It seems to be the general opinion that they look good but are fragile (no crossbar, no rails) :nenau .
But I'm glad you're happy with them :thumb
And as far as I'm concerned, I didn't buy my GS for her looks but for her practicality and versatility, so there is no limit to the amount of ugliness I can add to her ("shite bags", panniers + rails, 41L TT tank, Givi E52, aux lights).... She looks like a tank but I love her (I probably wouldn't say the same if it was my girlfriend :D ).
