Hi Bandit, I am going to attempt the hard route , this week I went roadbook training in Wales with about 10 other riders ranging in Skill level from Expert to pleasure rider, not all are doing the Tuareg this year but have done it in the past.

The plan seems to be that two assistance teams are going to work together with John meeting the faster riders at check points for fuel and Martin of Torque Racing meeting the leisure riders at check points for fuel and food.

I know the places with John have gone but 2 places with Martin are still available

Got the seat fitted, the seat height has increased by 2" and now is a lot more comfy.

Roadbook fitted and tested last week on a route of about 110 miles it was a chilly day to say the least but on the + side did not see any other countryside users all day

GPS blew up before I got to use it , a Garmin 62st seems a good unit but rather than powered from the battery by a single pin terminal the 62 series can only be powered by mini USB which is a concern , I imagine it will be a lot easier for the sand to inpregnate the USB connection

Hi Jonnywave,

Perhaps i did not explain clearly, All the riders with assistance from John Hall or Martin will be free to ride as quick or as slow as they wish regardless of which of the above teams they join for assistance. The plan is John will only wait for the quicker riders at a checkpoint so that he can refuel and feed the riders. Then he will set off in time to meet up at the next checkpoint again for fuel and food for the quick riders. Martin will arrive at each checkpoint later and stay around longer to fuel and feed the slower riders. The quicker riders will consist of those who can not only ride fast but those who can follow the road book accuratley.

Roadbook training was arranged by Donna Gray ( one of the UK's top lady riders and ex British enduro champion) of http://www.torqueracing.net/page9.htm she prepared the road books which are handed out on the day then you get to ride with her and receive guidance to understanding the roadbook and the route and setting up your GPS for Rally navigation. You can then once you understand the basics navigate on your own and meeting up at pre agreed checkpoints.

It was a really useful day and has given me confidence that once in Moroco i will understand how to navigate, so one less thing to worry about here is a clip of the day below.

Hi serg, yea I got it but my typing is poor it should of read " i will One of slowest in those teams" so Martin would probably see me alot.... The vid was great what gps are you going with?

Tuareg 2012 anyone want to share transport from UK

Hi I have entered the 2012 Taureg and might be interested in sharing transport down to Morocco. There are three of us doing it together and we have a mechanic friend coming as well. Wow like the Bike and look forward to seeing it at the port in Spain. Your garage is also very enviable I could only dream of a setup like that.

I am still on course for the rally and now very excited I hope it lives up to my expectations. I have been purchasing all my necessities these last two weeks and was hoping to go out on the bike to Enduroland on Sunday but the ground is frozen so don't fancy breaking something important like a shoulder! so another weekend of looking at my bike rather than riding it I am afraid.

the list is not complete , a bottle of jagermeister for the finish. top tip for all day in the saddle, grease you bollocks told to me by the welsh enduro team. dont mix with sand . enjoy every minute and keep smiling at all times... you may find the last one very hard to do......... keep up with the reports

Hi looks good gear thinking about buying the Leatt myself how does it feel tempreture wise?, last year I tried a cheap foam neck brace and rode an enduro with it on, but after 30 minutes I had to discard it as I was cooking inside, it trapped a lot of heat. I would be keen to get your feedback are you going to ride with it on prior to the Tuareg? it would be great to know your thoughts, I guess it is a way up over heat or a life at Stoke Mandeville

Unfortunately I won't be riding in any warm weather until the rally just as many practice days as I can do between now and the rally with the Desert Racing guys. I have the Klim adv jacket so am looking to see how it will work with the collar. Will let you know.

i've been using one for the last couple of years, it depends more on the jacket you are wearing it with and also whether you're wearing a buff or something similar with it, then it can get real hot inside, but taking it off becomes quite refreshing!

Information about the route, participants and more details are actualised and can be found at www.tuareg-rallye.com. The virgin forest and the labyrinth will be new parts of this years track. Longer tracks in the south of morocco will be an additional challenge.

We have 22 Nations represented by 200 vehicles in competition. These numbers show that the Tuareg Rallye is now one of the most established Desert Rallyes. 2500 Kilometres including 500 kilometres of dunes are part of this year’s Tuareg Rallye itinerary. Several international teams will take on this challenge In the profi motorcycle group, the title of the favourite is still open. Thorsten Kaiser, three times winner of the Tuareg Rallye will be modest at the start but he will support his team. The possibility of Martin Fontyn (Team chief of EAO) raising his previous podium finish to first position cannot be dismissed. It will be an interesting battle. Team Energia e Sorrisi, Team Roadstar, Team Härtel and Memotours which provided also last year’s top drivers, is back in the race with several top drivers. Many members of this team have already been seen in the leading field on last year’s Tuareg Rallye.
In the motorcycle amateur group, taking part will be more important than winning. Experienced riders from last year as for Example Frank Allgaier or Raffele Bacchi know that precise navigation is far more important than an open throttle.

With more than 50 vehicles in the 4x4 group, the level of competition for the Tuareg Rallye has been set. Christoph Danner, several times winner of the Tuareg Rallye, will have to fight hard against massive competition. Maxtraction and Race 2 Recovery, two teams preparing for the Dakar will be seen at the start of the Tuareg Rallye. But this is not all… The German French Team lead by Malte Asmus, have collect experience last year and will also be good for a surprise. And don’t forget Team 4x4 Service from Kachachstan, or Team Bowlerspirit from UK.

In the 4x4 amateur group, the familiar array of enthusiastic desert racers in budget race cars has not changed. The father & son team Dominique and Reiner Kleer or Arne Dolle with Codriver Bianca Seekles will on one hand provide good competition, but also demonstrate the unique camaraderie found amidst the competition and the social elements of the Tuareg Rallye. Whether out on the race tracks or back in the paddock, the friendly cooperation found between all participants of the Rallye is something to be proud of.

The Tuareg Rallye Organisation is very well respected as a professional, experienced and effective unit providing good security for all Rallye participants with up to nine known and hidden checkpoints. seven medical teams under the leadership of Dr. Oliver Zorn and supplemented by the ORMS medical service, will ensure fast response time and top-class medical service provision. Two M.A.N Kat1 recovery trucks and several pickups will bring broken-down vehicles safely back to the night’s camp. Hopefully, they’ll just be returning with exhausted recovery truck passengers.
This year will will have first time a livereporting direct from morocco. Internett access have been tested during the preetour.

Sent wifey to the spa for the day and made fruitful use of the time the house was unocupied by making a land grab, at present I am holding 40% of the dining room, I hope to be able to fortify the area and use it as my workshop up until the shipping day arrives.
