Tuareg Rallye 18-26 March 2012 (entered 30 years to late)

serge

nice move, keep it there as long as poss.. be good if she cooks your lunch and watches you work .will help her when she services your bike!!! hows the prep going ? loctite all them bolts on the rear sprocket ...

Preperation is going well still a bit in shock how much is required to ride off road for 8 days the Rally Organisation want me to now send proof that I have insurance in place to be repatriated back to the UK should i have a problem

Anyway so far i have sourced probably the most important item for the Rally.

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/sQf3un5IPEfTsT1W8LNaBdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4arjbETtnIc/T0pzK_ijujI/AAAAAAAAARY/Rsdl4ApgXR0/s400/IMAG0262.jpg" height="240" width="400" /></a>

I got some new plastics and a rack from the USA for the rear , new tinted goggles, Garmin 62 gps, new knee armour + pelvis armour, have not bought an Enduro jacket yet keep thinking about getting a very light one with lots of pockets but a bit worried I will overheat in it, spare chain , emergency flares, mini first aid kit, chain breaker hopefully arriving from ebay this week is a spare set of clutch plates, spare sprockets, 2 sets of Michelin Deserts, 2 new bib mousse's and a spare rear wheel.

Makes you wander how the bike will pull away!

<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-Artd29ywgD98QYnbP0ootMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PijC-uKSSFg/T0pzT0HaJvI/AAAAAAAAARM/ccckqx328uk/s800/IMAG0254.jpg" height="768" width="459" /></a>

Trouble is part of my dream was to be mistaken at least once or twice for Marc Coma during the rally :D but even with all this kit it still looks like a 450 EXC rather than that Rally Raid look i dreamed of :(

The bikes still missing that "je ne sais quoi"

Talking of insurance for the Toureg.. who do you use

Hi All,

Could previous entrants let me know who they got their insurance for the times event Toureg Rally from?

Many thanks,

Clayton

Hope you liked the pics, think it will be the last time it looks this good.

Have not had a chance to ride it yet, next week it gets shipped but my plan is to read the owner's manual on the plane to familiarise myself with the bike:D

690

great bike, new toy to play with big adventure to go on must be have a smile on your on your face by now....but no fecking text .. even the dog is pleased your going!!!!!:beerjug:

Slick bike!

Thanks, have to say it is quite a plesant view to see when I come down stairs in the morning perhaps a modern day equivelent of a Turner or Van Gogh!

All I ask is if you go by me please do not roost the bike. If I get a single stone chip on it I will be noting the ride number of the offender then addressing the matter that evenin:Dg

Took the bike out to Whaddon MX near Buckingham on Sunday for a shakedown, only part to fall off was the exaust guard, quite glad it fell off before the start though. This is the first time i have rode a 690R, really surprised how well it digs in to corners and powers out. Whaddon is used most weekends by 4x4 vehicles so the land is really rutted. The 690 seems happier crossing the 4x4 ruts fast at 90 degrees than my 450 which really gave me a confidence boost.

Had a great day with my boys

Bike is on the way to Spain now, I fly out Saturday morning to get it out of the van in Almeria then attach the last few bits. Registration opens Sunday afternoon then loading on the Ferry for Morocco Sunday night. Think I am meant to sleep on the ferry Sunday night which I never find easy then after a crap nights sleep:blast the Rally begins
