....BMW repair kits that look like little bow ties. Has anyone had a go with them ? I got the kit with my bike, but the instructions are not with it. I get the idea of pushing the rubber bow tie bit of rubber in but are you supose to leave it half in and half out and does it need trimming off ? Any help mucho appreciated

I personaly dont like that type but they work ok. Yes you push it in about half way, and the airpressue inside the tyer pushes the inner into the tyre wall from the inside and you simply cut away the excess on the outside with the small razor blade in the kit.

Thanks for that. The clue is the razor blade then, or not in my case because thats missing as well. I am curious how the glue helps though?

Just use a stanley knife to cut off the excess. The "bow tie" won't create an air-tight seal without the glue.

I bought one of Slimbos puncture repair kits as used by the AA about 4 years ago. Bloody typical, but I haven't had a puncture since I bought it - neither have any of my mates.

We I couldnt get the bloody BMW stuff to seal/work -It maybe me of course

but the brown rat tails that are sold on fleabay - never had one not work
At Mo I have done 3 car tyres and 2 bikes
only one of the tyres were mine and they are only about 7quid for 5 strings and the reamer/threader
BTW the gas re-inflateing bulbs are also a liability 1 bulb does 5psi the other only take it up to about 12psi
so get a pump

I bought one of Slimbos puncture repair kits as used by the AA about 4 years ago. Bloody typical, but I haven't had a puncture since I bought it - neither have any of my mates.

Slimbo might be able to suply you with the 'streatching tool' which makes it much easier to use this type of repair plug.

Make sure you reem the hole properly. Then cover the plug with plenty of glue (with the streaching tool and a pot of glue, you would simply dip the tool in the pot covering the plug) and push it in the hole so the plug is about half way in. Pull the tool out and leave for a few minutes before reinflating the tyre, and cutting the tail off leaving about 2mm.

The needle type tool supllied works fine on most holes, but you will need to ream out the smaller ones or you risc breaking the plug. All is not lost at this point, because you can turn it round and use the other end. Oh and plenty more glue

Tyre Repair

It works for me and will use it again. I'll leave the RAC guys snoozing in their vans until something more serious occurs rather than wait for them to turn up.

A small compressor is really useful.

Bought the partco one which is exactly the same kit but more glue and better tools than the BMW one and I also bought a small compressor. Used it twice, absolutely brilliant did about 5 or 6K on the tyres afterwards until they needed renewing.
Always carry the kit just in case me or another biker I see at the roadside has a puncture.
p.s. took about 10mins to get going again.
