I'm thinking about tuning my Megamoto. Nothing serious, just de-cat headers, less restrictive can and better fuelling via a Power Commander.

Joe, have you had your de-cat headers yet? If so PICS PLEASE :clap

I'm not mad keen on fitting a really loud pipe as the cops are a bit hot on noise here, but a bit more volume would be fine.

The Power Commander just makes sense to remove the strangehold of emmisions regulations. I believe that adding a PC might help with the notorious cyclical vibration between 3 and 4,000RPM too.

If anyone has any info I'll buy you a beer  (next time I see you in Switzerland) :D

Nice :thumb2

You fitting a Power Commander too?

Haven't decided yet. I just wanted rid of the cat, I just think they are a poor solution forced on us by legislation to a problem (emissions) that could have been solved better by engineers.

A quick solution to California's problems 30 years ago is still with us. I'm sure left to their own devices, manufacturers could have found a better solution with todays available technology.

I have the Akrapovic full Ti race exhaust. It opens the bike up tremendously-especially over 5,000rpms. I had the exhaust done along with the 600mile service and I now do not have any vibes b/w 3-5k rpms. I have not fitted a power commander and I'm not sure if I will. I don't think its necessary as the bike is an animal now. As for noise, its just a bit louder than stock with the baffle in. With the baffle out, It sounds really mean and throaty, significantly louder than stock but not in an abnoxious way. This is the way I'm running it now. I'm leaning towards leaving the baffle out, although with the baffle out there is slightly more vibes in the bars and pegs. Mind you, this opinion is coming from someone who got rid of the Remus can on my R1200gs because it was too loud with the Remus headers. Some pictures for your perusal.

Spoke with Atonio at Aros today - my header pipes are ready for collection :D :D

I asked him about Power Commanders or similar. His reply was that with a standard silencer they weren't a necessity, but fitting non-cat headers with an aftermarket silencer does make the bike run bordeline lean and he would recommend one with that set up.

He did tell me he'd seen gains of 9 bhp on the dyno from a standard R12GS with headers, pipe and a PC.

That looks nice :thumb2

Do you have a part number? Any reduction in performance with the baffle in?

I havent noticed any reduction in performance with the baffle in. Sorry I dont have a part number for this.

Joe bar, can you tell me what brand of power commander people are using for the HP2? I had a Wunderlich on my R12GS that was very nice.

I'm going to have to try and locate this full system. Only place I can find it so far is at HPN - http://www.hpn.de/english/english.html

I know it's expensive but don't have an accurate price. EDIT: Just located their pricelist. The system is €1998 inc 19% VAT.

Looks like it gives a nice lift over 4K :thumb2

Just fitted yesterday evening, not ridden it yet, first impressions are that they are very light, at standstill noise doesn't seem much altered with stock baffles in and only slightly louder than before with the baffles out. :) :)

Very easy to fit and everything lined up and fitted without any problems or modification needed.

Easy to overlook, but look at the boost in torque that the exhaust gives!:D

Indeed :D

Did you have to use a spacer to stop the silencer fouling the tyre?

Ordered my full Akrapovic system today from HPN. They say no spacer is required but I've asked them to supply one anyway.

I tried placing some washers as a spacer and due to the angle of the can (slightly outward as you go back), it really didnt make a significant difference.

@Fixinbones,
what is your feeling now with the complete AKRA exhaust ?
Could you compare for example by driving again a standard MM ?
Because we really quickly get used with enhancements and we only remember how it was before when we drive another standard machine again :mmmm

It really frees up the engine above 5k rpm. Dont think I would ever want to ride a stock one after this mod:D If the cost is prohibitive I would recommend just a nice set of headers to go along with the stock exhaust. That cat is a real party spoiler!!!!!!

My new full Akra system arrived last week :thumb2

It's staying in the box until spring though. There's snow everywhere over here now, which is why I'm off skiing today :clap
