It's looking more and more likely that my day job is going to take me to Istanbul for around 10-12 weeks.

It also appears that i'm going to be working 6 day weeks while i'm there, so it will restrict any traveling from Istanbul to a radius of around half a days ride.

I am toying with the idea of taking one of the bikes over with me. I have a choice of either the 1150gsa or the xchallenge.

I haven't ruled out the idea of hiring a bike over there either.

Does anyone on this forum have any experience of the riding around this part of the world, or any contacts with bike hire/ trail tour operators?

Ideally i'd like to spend my only day off trail riding if possible.... :thumb

thanks in advance...

Contact "ExpatinIstanbul" .. he showed us round when we were there in March of this year.

You can ride there or I know a shipping company that can put your bike on a wagon and deliver it to istanbul.

Hello,

Mr Intermediate is correct that Mr ExpatIn Istanbul will guide you around, however you will need to consider that you will only be allowed to bring the bike in for 6 months at a time (per year cycle) and if you need to leave the country you will need to place your bike in customs inpound as your bike is registered on your passport and you cannot leave the country with it still registered. Therefore the only way to do this is to drive it out or put it in the pound. Therefore is a ball ache for this if you are in and out of the country. If you are staying put for 12 weeks in Turkey, then bring it in with the V5 and your passport and you will need some local insurance unless you have this covered from UK (not likely).

Drop me a PM or email if you need more info.

I typed the above reply quick last night.

Other things to consider - Bike rental in this part of the world is expense as is buying bikes. As biking is a "hobby" here it is hit with some serious costs, everything is more expensive than anywhere else. Also know that the petrol costs more here than anywhere else in Europe, currently 3.59 per litre in local currency which means around £1.80 a litre. Turkey is a great country, very friendly people but the bureaucracies are unbelievable as is the expense.

Also have a look at the following Link: http://www.emok.org/ which is the off-road trail riders site. Lots of friendly people.

Hope this helps with you decision.

Nick.
