My fax machine has broken, I need to receive an important fax.

My fax machine and my pc internet access use the same phone line.

I think I must be able to turn my PC into a fax machine?

If I go on windows help it suggests loading the fax software from my installation disc, I bought the PC pre loaded so I have no discs.

Is there a piece of cheap/free fax software I can download.

I'm not techie minded so if this is daft just tell me and I go away and lick my wounds:o

The installation files may still be on your PC somewhere - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components - Tick Fax Services - see what happens - if it prompts for a file - have a quick search of your C:\Drive for it - if not found, then Cancel and forget it :)

Cheers Clive, did that with no luck, as soon as i clicked fax services it just asked for the disc to be inserted.

Never mind i've a free trial with efax for 30 days that should be enough to figure if it works OK or not.

Cheers

I have been using efax - the subscription version as my 'uk'post box - all my mail goes to my mums... she weeds out the jumk mail and stuffs the rest through the fax machine.
Excellent - comes straight to my inbox as a pdf file! If I want to send I just email it out with the fax number infront of their send addy.
Means no need for a fax machine - I can scan or take a digi picky and send from anywhere I have internet access!
Well worth the money.

Even though i've only just started playing with it, it looks ideal for when i'm away on the boat as traditionally I come back to stacks of paper from the fax, at least with this I should be able to whittle it all down quickly along with my emails.

Fingers crossed
