'Turns out the underwriter is not willing to insure me as I have had 3 cancelled policies in the last 12 months....

Well, what a roller coaster this thread has been - ranging from supporting comments, thumbs up and advice, and the inevitable site illuminati personal insults, and finally the moderator changing my thread title as he thought his version better suited his interpretation of the issue. Not seen that much before so I am truly honoured you took the time to do that Richard.

Anyway, to the update.

Received a phone call followed by a very lengthy email today from my old insurance provider.

They have investigated and have found that in this instance they have indeed made a mistake. they have amended their records, are going to put in it writing they were wrong so that should any future provider query if I had insurance refused there will be a record of this resolution.

In addition they offered to insure me on the policy I originally wanted honouring the same price and would like to give me £200 by way of compensation for any inconvenience caused.

This was never about the money, or about being childish, it was about calling out something which I knew to be wrong. The other reason was to highlight to others the issue I was faced with and how I chose to deal with it in the event some of you reading this have a similar problem.

Can you please close this thread.

I would have thought that checking that a business does not hold incorrect data about you is hardly childish

I do agree. And the results are, sometimes, useful to the greater group of users.
Most people just roll over* and the insurances (or other financial businesses) and their regulators do fuck all.

What Pluribus is doing is not dissimilar to what other people (me included) do when they go on demonstration rides, or similar stuff. I don't see anything weird with that.

* Or you get people that believe that changing one coloured plastic panel on a bike would invalidate a policy :D

Surely, over the past 12 months, you hold all the records. You know which vehicles you insured, you know the three that you sold and then requested three cancellations for. What other information are you asking for? What are you going to do with it, if and when you do receive it?

Because maybe the insurance monkeys (low level employees) fucked up, and in doing so, created an inconvenient situation for him
That is exactly what it seemed to have happened based on the response Pluribus got from the insurer and posted above. I don't see the issue in asking the insurance clarification: there is so many grey areas when setting up new policies.

Or one can just roll over and take it.

That is exactly my point.
It’s best not to argue the point with a bloke with over 70,000 posts. Life is too short.
A wise person would, perhaps, have considered that a proportion of these posts were made to help bmw owners with mechanical problems.
Over the years, Steptoe has given invaluable knowledge to many, giving unbiased advice/suggestions/fixes for free.
Being one of the 'old guard' on here, (I think it was in 2004 that I joined despite what my profile says) I feel obliged to call it as it is.

The saying "Judge not lest thou be judged" comes to mind...
If you cannot be bothered to sort out the wheat from the chaff in replies and consider other peoples' points of view, don't post on a public forum .
Now I'll get my coat before the buns arrive :duck:

You must realise that the traits of "sometimes being helpful" and "sometimes being a bit of a cock" are overlapping circles in the Venn diagram of UKGSer. The probability of being in the overlapping section increases with post count.

I've run out of Chelseas, just iced buns left this late in the day. With or without cream?

Your old title (the thread was originally posted in the pub, before someone * moved it) was ‘Insurance’.

When the thread was moved to the ‘Insurance’ sub-section, its original title became somewhat vague. I simply lifted the words:

out of your opening post, as they neatly encapsulated the problem you faced and / or wished to alert people to. Somebody reading the forum might now see the amended title - maybe having the same problem themselves, perhaps - and (hopefully) find it useful.

I will close the thread, as requested.
