It`s 7am on New Year`s Eve and while most people around the World who weren`t in work were probably waking to the sound of their loved one`s gentle breathing (or beastly snoring ),their children giggling and playing or their pets asking in their own inimitable manner for their breakfast,I was awoken by the clanging and crashing of the neighbourhood recycle bins being collected and tipped into the refuse truck.

Ah well...I like being up and about reasonably early in the day.

I looked outside and although there was initial excitement at seeing everything white, and thinking we`d finally had snow and I could go playing on one of my Urals, there was actually only a very light dusting along with a fair bit of fog.

Hmmm....just looks like being a lazy morning at home then, along with lots of coffee and hot toast.

Ooops...got no bread, and if you want toast, you`ve gotta have bread!

Good job it`s only 100 yards to the corner shop...I`ll put my jacket on and walk down for a loaf of bread.

WALK ???

Am I MAD ???

Five minutes later I`m kitted up in my bike gear and I`ve wheeled out Skaya (my 650 Ural ).
She`s looking good even with just a light dusting of snow on her.

You may have guessed that I`m not going to ride to the corner shop when I can ride the local lanes.
Yes...just like yesterday`s 45 mile ride for an MOT test 3 miles from home.....I`m going to ride the ....erm....ah.......long way round. :augie :augie

I just can`t help going out Uralling when the weather is cold and what many people call 'miserable'.
I don`t find it miserable at all.....it`s very invigorating and almost exciting to be riding in Wintertime.
Sorry if some of the photos aren`t very detailed...there was quite a bit of mist about and I think it`s compromised the photo clarity.

I`d love to know what strategic significance this country lane held to justify the building of a military pill box here.

Country lanes....I love them.

Some of the trees along this section were almost a picture postcard.

That sheep doesn`t look too happy at getting its photo taken.
Would 'ewe' at that time of morning? :D

No trains have visited here for many years, but it`s been kept as it was when last in use.

Memories of bygone times.....looks well on a day like today....you can imagine the steam locos chuffing away and disappearing into the distance.
Quite atmospheric really.

Let`s ride some more country lanes.

The Wheatsheaf....... local pub....it would have nice to pop inside for a warm drink, but it wasn`t open.
Mind you,it was only 9am !

Come on...I`m getting hungry....let`s ride to the shop and get that bread.
Time to head back home.
Time for toast and coffee.

More Ride Reports next year !!

Nice pics but somebody seems to have removed the MG42 from your sidecar:eek:

Yes please, and less of these drive reports where your sat on a three wheeled vehicle not unlike a Reliant Robin with the body removed :D

:dabone :dabone :dabone

Really ??

Yet you look so happy and at home in this photo .....:augie

Not so long ago the MOD were very worried by the very thought of Ural combinations being ridden around the country lanes of Britain, albeit they thought the Red Army might be using them, and no I don't mean LFC either:D

Nice pics

Good start to the ride report year. Haven't sobered up enough to ride the bike for the last day or two, but did have a walk to the neighbouring village to pick up some baguettes the other morning. Nice view back to our village from the path

?

you are a very bad man Franco:D

Aye, it's nice, but the thing for me about Tarka's report was all the things which I miss about the UK, nice old brick buildings, local country pubs, nice lanes...only the feckin weather is horrible. I always enjoy the UK when we get back, living here is like anywhere else, you get used to where you are and take it too much for granted.
I like his bike too. Came very close to buying one of them from the bloke in Rushey Green many years ago, but needed the cash for me Landrover instead....

:blast

Out for a ride today & I came across a familiar sight,
I saw this & something clicked in my head - where have I seen this before?
