Hooray, it turned up today, I am looking forward to having a play this weekend...

That was a mityvac, not a twinmax. The Twinmax is shite to use, i had one for two weeks and then sold it. The person who bought it ( an experianced ukgser spanner juggler) also sold it on after just a couple of weeks.
They make a simple job very longwinded.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I did find that it seemed to give a more stable reading when the bike had a had a service, ie had the valve clearances and rocker end float done
I still use mine but I really should get round to making a manometer
We used a home made manometer to check the settings of a Twinmax at a tech day a few years ago. The Manometer was much easier to use.
I quite like my Morgan Carbtune now it's settled in and stopped sticking. Seems pretty accurate but I still double check using the home made manometer.
The Mityvacs are good for checking the calibration on vacuum gauges. Quite an eye opener

I never really use anything, just do it by ear - but I am sure that the twin max works OK - but I have to read the instructions everytime I use it, (must be my age).
The only reason you Brits cannot use them is that the idea is French
It's just a differential pressure sensor. Been used in industry for donkeys years how could the French claim to have invented that?

Its a slow, wet day, so...
A German invented the Manometer... The Frogs, the Altimeter, which is a high pressure manometer... I think
I bought a Carbmate, but not used it yet. Still waiting for a set of carb tubes

I just used my twinmax about 10 minutes ago. I think they are great.
The problem may be that if your settings are miles out, it might take a bit fiddling (with the bike) to get it within range of the scale. Although, if its that bad at the minimum sensitivity setting, your bike is seriously out of tune.
