TWO more on the horizon...

In the latest copy of TWO magazine it is reported that a further two versions of the GS are likely...

The first is the expected and anticipated Adventure vesion. Supposedly with Ali panniers as standard.

The second, potentially the R1200GS HP (High Performance). Where the current 12 is a "road bike with some off-road potential", the HP will be built as an "off-road bike with some road potential"...Due end 2005.

Here's looking forward.

You would think they would only need an adventure version really. And if theres an HP version that sounds more like a road focussed superports GS version. Why would they need 2 off road variants, especially as the current 12GS is pretty well pushed as a dual purpose by BMW.
Or have I got this wrong :)

I think you're right in your comments on how BMW push the current model.

The picture with the short article showed a very much MX/Enduro styled bike being tended by some engineers "pit stop" style.

It seems the difference in versions is the off road nature. Adv for Overlander type, extended fuel tank etc, and the HP for Enduro sport riding.

But that's just my cut on it.

Yes, I get it. I think Ive seen some pics of something or other enduro like.

Are you collecting your new one on March 1st like me then Eddy??

OH YES!!

In fact I understand it is due at the dealers by the end of this week! But my current schedule means that it makes best sense to wait....

My better half got a new F650GS in December, so I'm getting the occasional two-wheeled-fix on that at the moment.

What colours have you gone for? Have you got a pile of accessories awaiting fitting too? ;)

I hope there is some progress on the hugger front soon...

I am without bike :( . The upside of which is I sold the SV nice and quick for a good price so that didnt become a problem.

Blue, grey, black, anyway.

Will probably get a few cheap bits and pieces to put on like clear lens covers, but haven't got much planned. Unlike my SV which was majorly remodelled so I'm taking a bit of a break from that as I ended up spending loads on cosmetic extras  whereas for the GS I want some practical stuff...like panniers.

Prices?

Hi Eddy..

Any mention in TWO of potential prices for the adventure and HP models?

Be interesting to see the difference.......

:beerjug:

Afraid not. The article was very brief and went on to metion the naked K12...

Text of TWO article

"According to source at the BMW factory, two new versions of the R1200 GS are being planned. The first is the rather obvious Adventure version. Much like the R1150 GS Adventure, the R1200 Adventure will have a larger-capacity tank, magnesium alloy engine cases and more off-road-oriented long-travel suspension. It is also believed it will feature metal paniers as standard. Expect it at the end of 2005.

The second R1200 GS planned is far more interesting. The bike pictured, labelled the R1200 GS HP (high performance) is believed to have a frame based around the old BMW 900 RR Dakar bike, giving it serious off-road potential. The rest of the details are sketchy, but expect a slightly more powerful engine and uprated suspension. It will be road legal, but whereas the GS is a road bike with off-road potential, the HP will be an off-road bike with road potential. Sounds fun and should be here mid-summer."

Also mentioned in the article are far-off plans for a parallel-twin-based scooter with engine between 650 and 800cc. Also a picture of the K1200 R CupRacer, naked bike based on yet-to-arrive K1200S.

Comment from SLM was, "we know about CupRacer and have three coming in, but haven't heard of others".

The pic of the so-called HP version shows much cut-down GS with very thin seat, obviously different frame and different silencer.

Sorry, I was sitting in the SLM showroom typing it up from their copy of the mag. Check out your local newsagent.

As Eddy802 wrote it was a couple of guys and a bike. No guarantee the pic relates in any way to the 'source at the BMW factory', in fact I'd say it was highly unlikely.

You've got it wrong Dr Rich :) (wot, you think you can get away? :)).

What a lot of people outside of the current BM club want from a GS is a model that's more road-orientated - so a higher power engine, wider wheels/stickier rubber and maybe underseat exhausts (yeah I know, it's of no practical benefit but sure looks the dogs). Road biased big trailies (like the Multistrada) are going to be big business.

If BM were to do this they'd most likely double their current GS owner base in months.

.

Marketing hype.

I wonder if they'll make a version that actually deserves the GS badge?

Only stirring ;) ;)
