Le Mans is always a popular destination, either for the races or as a reasonably convenient stop over when travelling down the west side of France.
I thought these hotels might be of interest to anyone passing by.
(1) Hotel de France in La Chartre sur le Loir
Only about 40 miles from Le Mans
A Logis de France hotel
The hotel has had a long association with the 24 hour car race, with many of the old teams from the 1950's and 60's staying there. This was in the days of 'proper' endurance racing, when the cars were registered for the road and driven to the circuit.
The town itself is as French as you like.
(2) Auberge de la Sarthe
In Chateauneuf sur Sarthe, about 50 miles from Le Mans, roughly south, close to Angers.
Again, it's a small family run hotel. There is a modern hotel just across the road.
The town is attractive enough down by the river. I get the impression it used to be quite wealthy (it was a centre for building industrial canal barges) but has fallen a bit on hard times. That being said, the hotel and its restaurant are fine. Good three course lunch, in the sun, by the river for Euro 12, so can't complain.
Worth an overnight stop, a drop by for lunch or maybe as a base to explore the region for a day or two.

The modern hotel, it's a Logis de France place, so probably OK, too.
