1. My valve clearances havent needed adjusting for ages, I mean at least 2 years - is this normal? Nothing is siezed or tatty looking, though to be honest, I'll not be mistaken for Mr high mileage - just curious that's all.

2. I've been balancing my injectors, using the patented Robotronic 2000,basiclly a pipe and a plank. But as I was fiddling, I wondered if I was upsetting the ful/air mixture - it's just a question of tightening/loosening screws, but does the lambda sensor and FI doodah take care of the mixture?

Just two little things really

Don't know about Boxers but my Trident has done 49,000 miles over 13 years and the valves have never needed adjustment.

Re valves - once they have been competently done after run-in, they shouldn't really move for many miles, till things start to wear out.

Re 2 - as I understand it yes, within reasonable limits, but I'm not a blackbelt on sensors.

longer runs will wear valves seat inserts out quicker than pootling.

its the seat that wears - not the valve.

when they are nice and hot - every time a valve hits a seat - it pulls a microscopic amount of material from the 'softest' or hottest' metal part.

Hi Jamie

Mine's on 105,000 now, and in the last 50,000 it's only the RH exhaust valve (starved on startup after parking on sidestand?) that's needed any adjustment, and that was only the tiniest bit with me being even more anal than usual.

Where's Neil when you need him?

Regards, Mick

I know that cock, but that wear "transfers" itself as a sign up the stem and into the rocker. Just seemed odd that's all. Every other bike I've had seemed to need adjusting almost every other month.

I'm still not used to servicing it, it's so fecking easy and you dont seem to do much. :thumb

Cheers all.
