Two weeks of ownership and I'm really not sure I made the right decision

Thanks for that. I will be taking the bike to the dealers on Monday and I will ask for the warranty T's & C's.

Packing the bike up on Sunday, ready to leave at 0500 on a three day 1500 mile trip, I removed the seats in order to fit the BMW tank bag, refitted the seats and was unable to take the key out of the seat lock as it had jammed completely. Half an hour of pushing, pulling and twisting made no difference. The key was not completely upright in the lock, and would not budge into the upright position. I read every post I could find on this forum, and resumed my efforts, this time with graphite spray, and pushing down hard on first the rear seat, then the front. Zilch.
No way could I leave the key where it was, as anyone would be able to use the keyless start and ride it away, so I grabbed a pair of pliers, held the body of the key in them and slowly applied more and more pressure. Just as I thought it was going to snap, the key shifted slightly and I was able to use the pliers and pull it out.

I used the Live Chat feature on the dealer's website and outlined the problem to the nice lady who answered, and asked her to arrange a workshop appointment for me, as I would be on the road for the next few days from 0500 to 1800 each day, and requested email confirmation that this would be a warranty issue.

Monday came & went - no confirmation. Had to stop & phone the dealers, who knew nothing about the live chat, and promised to call me back and email me. They didn't. Stopped to phone again on Tuesday - same promise, same outcome. All day riding on Wednesday, so phoned the dealer again this morning. The workshop chap I needed to speak to was too busy at 0900 to talk to me, same at 1000 and at 1115 I phoned again and went somewhat crazy at the poor receptionist. That got me a phone call back, and was advised to call BMW Assist, as they would send someone to look at it, and if it can't be repaired on site, they would arrange transport for it to go back to the dealer (I live a 3 hour round trip away).

That was this morning. It's 4:30 now and I'm still waiting for the promised text with an arrival time.

Whilst the bike behaved impeccably during my trip (my only complaint is the seat, which is torturous and will have to be replaced toot sweet)) gave me 60 mpg over all, this has left me wondering whether I have made a mistake and should have bought the Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX instead.
Take the tank bag off. You don't really need it.

I’ve had the same experience with Arden. They were great at selling me a bike, but after sales service had been shite. I was merely trying to book a service.

I even complained and they immediately seemed to up their game, responding quickly to emails and lots of apologies.

However, before long they reverted back to their old ways. I’ve booked the bike in with an independent now.

Arden were shite as Coopers too . Had my K1200S for 2 months and never fixed it . Had to take it to independent in the end .

Probably changed but on my 1200 you unlocked the seat, removed the key, replaced the seat later. Do you need to leave the key in to replace it?

Seems to be asking for something to jam.

But crap service for sure.

Hi owl , bit of a coincidence because yesterday I emailed my dealer asking if I should have had any paperwork relating to the used aproved warranty as the only thing I had was a use booklet explaining what's covered & what's not which I new any .
I'm guessing that if I breakdown all my details are on the mothership system & all I need is my registration number .
Hopefully I get a response back today.
Ian.

I will demand a written T's & C's document - I want to read the small print on whether I can keep it valid for the 2 years if I go to an independent for servicing. I know you can on a new bike but not sure if that applies for 2nd hand. I have no wish to let them service it if I can possibly help it.

As for living the key in whilst the seat is off - I hadn't given that a thought. I followed the instructions in the manual which said (in replacing seats) to turn the key whilst pushing down. I wonder if you can replace them without using the key? I'm not in a position at the moment to find out, as obviously the lock is completely jammed.

Strange - I have recently had great service from Arden Tunbridge Wells, couldn't fault them, they always called back.

All these comments and I'm still wondering why he took the seat off for a tank bag?

maybe I have the only tank bag that fits without going under the seat? :duno

the bmw one needs to connect next to the front seat height adjuster things.

Although I suspect hes fitted a GS tankbag to a GSA

Got to love a keyboard warrior :jes

No you wont , youll go in there all meek and mild and ask if its possible to to see the T's& C's :D

"" I want to read the small print on whether I can keep it valid for the 2 years if I go to an independent for servicing. I know you can on a new bike but not sure if that applies for 2nd hand. I have no wish to let them service it if I can possibly help it""

So you either didnt or havnt read the mandbooks & paperwork that came with the bike :blast

If you bought it approved used, it will come with a factory 2 year warranty - virtually no restriction on replacement of defective parts (apart from shocks over 30K)

Outside of the 2 year factory warranty - its a different kettle of fish , very good, but not a factory warranty

Can you get it serviced elsewhere and still keep the warranty

Under block exemption it was possible to have servicing / work done anywhere and still keep the oe warranty , with the caveat that the parts fitted must be of OE quailty & spec & the work carried out to OE levels

But since brexit, that no longer applies and a new MVBEO came into place from 01/6/23

The terms and conditions of that i do not know

So your going to either have to

Sit down and read the paperwork you got with the bike , or speak to the dealer politly and see what you can find out

But trust me going wambo wont achieve shit , well apart from making us laugh :bounce1

It is a BMW GS tank bag supplied by the dealer to fit my GS. As mentioned, the front seat has to come off in order to attach 2 straps at the back of it.

I did not receive any paperwork whatsoever relating to any warranty. My bad for not noticing/asking. I have only the salesman's word on it, and I no longer trust the salesman or the company.

I'm glad I'm giving you a good laugh, Santa, but from my perspective, it's not that funny.
