That should not happen ...

I have TKCs now and they are great on (dry) tarmac. Did a asphalt mountain pass in Morocco with hundreds of hairpins and the TKCs let me go as far as I dared. Haven't had much wet tarmac yet. Can handle any off road I've thrown at it, except for mud in which they are hopeless.

Last winter I had a pair of Metzler Lasertecs. On the cheaper end, made solely for road.

I know, but don't let me over egg it. In general it felt OK, it was unsettling over rough tarmac reinstatement or mixed surface which I guess was the tyre trying to follow parts of the uneven surface. Difficult to explain exactly. Higher tyre pressure and putting the forks at the correct height make it feel much better.
