Now that I have a spare set of wheels for my Airhead I need to select the right tyres.

I’ll run TKC’s for trips and dry offroading, but I want some road legal tyres for the more adventurous stuff – The odd enduro, Dawn to Dusk, Rallies and winter green lanes

I’ve run Gritty’s on my DRZ and like the front end confidence but having the rear where out in 1000 miles is not what I’m looking for.

What are your views on MT 21’s … When I’m on wet grass how will the front end perform? When it’s deep in wet clay will they drive me out? The bikes to big to push!

What about Trelleborg Tyres? The Army special looks interesting

I look forward to your recomendations

Thanks

I've been using Mitus c-02 on the back on my KTM. They're really stiff so good puncture resistance, wear rate is excellent as is on road performance (for knobbly :D ). They're road legal too, I've got mine from leasure trail for about £46 a go :thumb2 I've got a Gritty on the front but am thinking about trrying a mitus on there too next.

Thanks...they look good although a thread on TBM says they will not pass an MOT http://www.trailbikemag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=26557&sid=ce61e9d207a1be800c223778643691e0 although as a second set for me that's not an issue.

The guy from Telleborg seemed to know his stuff he also mentioned they do a 17inch version

Not heard that about the MOT compliance. Good to know though:thumb2
I must have paid 46 for the 2 going by what peeps on that forum are saying. Put one on about 6 months ago and it'll probably see me through till august now its dry :) They are a bugger to fit mind being so stiff :D

MT 21s should be fine, although the front isn't the best on wet grass. They're also good on tarmac and last well.

I used Bridgestone Grittys on my GSPD and found them just about perfect off road.

How much road work ae you doing... what kind of milage are you expecting?

Not doing that much road work per ride as my EXC is a bit buzzy on tarmac :o
Between last november an March this year I was out every Sunday and probably did about 30-40 miles on the road per ride with a few longer runs every now and then. Tend to work in hours for fuel consumption and maintance intervals so don't take much notice of mileage. They are basically a road legal MX tyre that wears very well on tarmac and doesn't slide that much in the wet compared to the enduro tyres I've used before. Very much an off-road tyre as opposed to duel purpose.

I run MITAS CO-2's on my exc and can tell you that they are road legal and you can MOT them.
I can also say that they do last VERY well and are a great all round tyre.
What i must also add is that 'piglet' is being ripped off@that price.I pay less than 35quid,always have done.
If you were local to Leisure Trail i'd get ya plenty,:thumb2

Don't forget that a tyre over 120 section may foul the driveshaft, with the HPN extended Monolever.
Previously MT21's were fitted and some of the 'knobs' touched the drivetrain casing

The Barum Mitas C-O2 tyre might be an interesting option - it IS road legal (the new one in my garage has an 'E' mark) and is designed as a moto-cross tyre for harder ground terrain.

For mixed road/enduro work, the Mitas E-09 could be a better choice.

Have a look at this table:

The Mitas E-09 is available in 120/90-17. The most likely supplier is the Trelleborg man as Barum-Mitas have links.

I bought 6 from leisure trail earlier this year (2 each for 3 of us) and he discounted them from list price and did free delivery, hence me wondering if i paid £46 for 2???
Any way they are lasting way better than anything I've used before so whatever they cost they're good value :P

Just spoken with leisure trail they tell me they will not pass an MOT... As I'll have a second set of wheels that's OK for me.

I'm passing leisure trail on Monday so think I'll pop in and buy some

Wreford, did you go for a Mitus front tyre? If so whats it like?

Not sure what it rides like as I'm yet to fit it... this will be a first for me! I've got the back half on but getting the HD tube in is deffeating me at the moment.

Anyway this is what the fron looks like - Another great picture from my Nokia N95

I am pulling my hair out trying to sort tyres for my HP2 and the Mitas C-02 looked a possible until I noticed the speed rating and its only rated to 140kph. The Mitas E-09 and E-09 Dakar are both rated to 190 kph so may be okay.

I have Karoos on at the moment but they have only lasted avbout 400 miles and need replacing:eek:

Anyone any tips for HP2 tyres....:o
