Tyre advice

Hi All
First time seriously looking at more off-roady type tyres.

What would people suggest?

From what i can figure out, (not looking at sizes) i have 4 real contenders, TKC 80's, Metzeler Karoo, Metzeler Enduro 3, or anakeee

for a 09 GSA, for a not unconfident off roader (not massively experienced, but have doing river crossings and big steep hills and mud, and attempting deep ruts (yet to properly suceed here though ) what would people suggest? I am in your hands, be kind to me

There are loads of threads on this but TKC's are really good on the GS. Good road manners and will give you enough traction off road to have a good muddy day. Karoo's are shite and made of soft butter Anakee's are really road tyres and I don't have experience of teh Enduro 3's.

The latest in thing to have are Heidenau K60 Scouts which are harder wearing than TKC's but not quite as good in the really tough stuff.

I'd go for TKC's or K60's

i am swaying (and was before your post) to the tkc's. Issue is though my local garage (micheldever) doesnt like fitting them to the gsa as the bike is easily capable of faster than the tyres speed rating (despite there being no chance of me ever going that fast.

Find someone else to fit them They are Ok to about 90 then it all starts weaving around a bit

i rarely go above 80 and even when i do its lack of concentration on the speedo, and soon as i notice drop down again.

and im not quite dakar speed off road (happy around 30-40 though, except on corners, but im working on those)

I thought they were a factory option fitment to the GSA?

its not a BMW dealer, just a tyre place, does very little else

so guessing they dont know what is standard fitment for bike

Handle well on both dry and wet roads, and handled well off road (gravel, fire tracks, shallow & deep sand....no wet/deep mud, so can't comment on that).

I also got a puncture just outside Marrakech, and noticed a slight difference in feel on the road. Stopped to fix it, then rode to the hotel. The tyre held up superbly well, despite having zero air in it.

I've done 3600 miles on them, and the wear rate is barely noticeable. It's the first time I've run with these, and I'm very impressed; I bought a set for £175 and then got them fitted locally.

That's because the sidewalls are like sheet steel. My local bike shop fitted mine and he said he'd never fitted anything like them and good luck if you have to change the trye on the road because there is no give in the side wall Still, as you say Kieth you should be able to get out of trouble with a puncture
