newbie GS 1250. need advice!

hi guys, new to the forum and world of GS, hope you experienced GS riders are able to help and point me in right direction, ill keep it short as possible looking to trade my tiger 1200 for a GS1250 TE 2021 onwards.
I've seen and put down a deposit on a GS TE 2021 Rallye (black spokes) for sale at a motorcycle dealer (not a BMW Motorrad) that's done 3500 miles, full service history, 1 owner, comes with the comfort/dynamic pack and small back box. 3 months warranty, optional 12 months ext warranty (£249) and lifetime engine/box/shaft warranty if serviced annually by them £12999. only issue is its been for a sale for 12 months and been reduced I've been told and can't reduce anymore as they'll be losing money..... the 1 owner only traded in for a Harley Davidson.

so would anyone be sceptical of a bike not being able to shift for 12 months with such low miles? as it looks mint and almost new. or is that the market atm people not buying? just seems like a waste and strange how people haven't snapped up a clean hardly used bike.

In an ideal world id like to buy via bmw for there 2 year warranty, used approved for peace of mind, or am I being naive and there warranty not worth much. but I'm looking to trade me tiger in and they won't offer as much as its worth as they'll just flog it via trade, so I'm limited to independent dealers to get the most for mine. I can get a warranty via motored insured warranty (370 a year) even if its not bought via a bmw dealer.

so in a nutshell, I like the look off this bike, with that such low mileage is there anything mechanically to be worried about or the GS 1250 reliable bikes and not to stress too much with the 3 months warranty period etc and can always buy the Motorrad cover. or anyone experienced buying such a low mileage bike before.

and also anything to check on the bike (package wise) that it needs to have to make it more attractive come resale time in the future.

I say go for it. Not a lot to loose. Can only imagine the guy that traded for a Harley wanted something different. 3.5k is no miles really. Just make sure the recall work has been done. Service history ? does that mean its had yearly services at BMW? or just the 600 mile service?

Don't think there's much to worry about.

thanks fro reply. yes my thoughts regards to the reason trading in. service history just says full bmw. but ill check the paper work Sunday. there gna put fresh oil and filter in. tried my mates gs today, totally better than the tiger for handling and low end torque

also is there any way of telling if a gs is a lowered chassis vs standard chassis as the seat on the gs I'm after is the Rallye low seat. but apparently standard Chassis. would it say on the paperwork or any tell tail signs, p.s doesn't have a centre stand either. cheers

Regarding the warranty, under your Consumer rights; you get 12 months warranty/coverage as standard.

For the Bike cost, check what its cost is compared to others (all around the UK) and the value for money it represents. And whilst buying from a BMW dealer is more expensive, you do get a 2 year warranty & European recovery included.

Is it definitely one owner? Or one previous owner? Or a BMW off-road school bike?
School bikes don’t have a centre stand.

Does it have the TE led headlamp?

If it has a full service history. It should have its 600 mile service. Plus a yearly service in 2022. 2023. 2024 etc.
Have you got a photo or a link to the advert?

Ask for the Vin number and look it up then you'll know the exact build of the bike.
I recently traded my 1200gsa in for a new 1250. Yes I know I might of got a little more if I sold it privately but for the sake of a few quid and no hassle.
The warranty from them in my view wouldn't be worth the paper it's written on as it will be basic. Prob an AA / RAC type ....ask for details on the warranty. Lifetime eng/box warranty if serviced by them.....not even BMW offer this and to me that's a red flag.
As said on here already no center stand would make me start asking questions, for that sort of budget I'm sure you could get something from BMW with a trade in. Just my thoughts.

Have you been to any BMW dealers to see what they'll bid you on your Tiger? It may be that they have a 21/22 plate GS that they've had a while and want shut of, they may offer you good money for your bike and obviously the 2 yr BMW warranty. I'd have no issue buying a 4 yr old BM from a non BM dealer but it would have to be good money....there are plenty of 22 plate GS at £13k at main dealers. (I'd also happily travel to buy if it meant a better deal/spec etc)

id send the link of the bike but cos I've put a deposit down they've taken the add down now, I have asked for the link, yet to receive it, but seeing the bike in person tomorrow. so ill get all the information, but I do have a watts app video that ill have to try and work out how to upload.

the 1 owner bought it from new I believe but ill check the V5 form/service history/paperwork to get its background.

strange no centre stand tho, but good point about possibly a training school. the bike looks too clean and not abused (no drop marks) so ill upload the info.

the bike is up for sale via youles in blackburn that have a good reputation. and there in-house lifetime warranty of engine/gbox/shaft is with all there bikes so I guess that's a good thing (got to be serviced by them). I can buy BMW warranty if I need to cover myself. its just it being such low mileage that seems too good to be true.

ill get a price for my tiger from my local BMW dealer. just nothin local is coming up, but a couple elsewhere in country. is 10k miles a lot of mileage for a 21-23 plate GS? cheers

I don't feel that 10k is much for a bike that's been ridden thru 3 summers.....so a 22 bike. I suppose it depends how many miles a year you do and also how long you'll keep the bike. If you're a low mileage biker...sub 2k miles a year...you could buy a 2 yr old bike with 20k miles on and in a few years, it would have 'normal' mileage. I don't get the fear of buying a higher mileage 1200cc bike...people think nothing of buying a 5 yr old car with a 1.2 engine and 60k miles on...and that's been dragging 1.5 tonnes about, not 350kg.
See what a few dealers will give you for your Tiger, see what they are selling for privately? You may be better off selling private for a few hundred quid less...and then buying a GS off this site for a couple of grand less than a dealer will charge.....

At the beginning of the forum there is a thread on VIN look ups you can use.

I like everything to be on the bike that should be. If anything has been taken off or changed most would hang on to it and sell it with the bike. I had 80 pages of bike history that I gave with my 1200 when I sold it. Might be nothing to worry about but always worth checking it out.

Several BMW R1250GS Rallye bikes were sold without the centre stand. I have seen a few for sale over the year.

There are a lot of centre stands for sale on eBay. If you buy one. Just make sure you get the correct height.

I don’t mean to be negative, but I’d be a tad sceptical about the lifetime engine/gearbox/drivetrain warranty. The lifetime of what, the bike, or the dealer? As we have found already this year alone, dealers going out of business is not uncommon. Would that level of cover be honoured by any other dealer should yours go bust 12 months into your four years of ownership ?

Hi gregski , might be worth giving Lincolnshire motorcycles a phone call regarding a price for your Tiger . I sold a v strom to them a while back and they gave me a excellent price for my bike compared to any one ells money was in my bank before they loaded it up in to a van.
I have no connection with Lincolnshire motorcycles only as a satisfied customer.
