Just past the 10K barrier and the EXPs need replacing - front & rear. 1st GSA I've had so no experience with other tyres on a large trailie. All of my rides are tarmac so I could go for a road biased tyre this time but given the mileage I've got from the EXPs I'm unsure whether I should just stick with them. Grateful for any advice.

The choice is vast... Lots of tyre threads on here if you do a search

But there are NO bad tyres out there, so it’s down to whether you want the Adventure style tyre, or road touring tyre.

Popular ones are..

Adventure style:
Metz Tourance
Bridgstone Battle wing
Conti Trail Attack
Dunlop Trailmax
Michelin Anakee..

Road touring style:
Michelin Pilot Road
Conti Road Attack
Dunlop Road smart

They are all excellent tyres that give about the same wear and grip levels

You forgot my favourite Anakee....:rob Seriously though do you reckon the road tyres last as long as the "dual purpose" in my experience BT02? 3k miles and Anajkee 10000+ I would be interested in peoples wear rates with the Pilots as I might try some next.

I reckon the dual purpose tyres are of course crap off road but last longer and have plenty of grip for me wet or dry.

Oops, forgot the Anakee's.

I have tried most the tyres on my list (except the roadsmart's). and they have all given me the same'ish wear rates: 5 - 6k miles for both front and rear.

I'm currently on a set of Tourance 1's, only because i got them real cheap..:augie

I have EXP's on my 1200 GSA, plenty of grip on the road wet or dry, not used off-road though. Bike used two-up with luggage a lot of the time, however, I prefer them to Bridgstone Battle Wings which are the only tyres I can make a comparison with on a GSA, more grip.

I would not say I am overly enthusiastic with the throttle, but I only manage about 4.5-5k miles per pair EXP's and both need changing at that stage - 10k miles seems remarkable! Stick with them.

For what its worth Anakee's for me, good in all conditions & great wear. Might try Dunlop TR91's next though

Aye, bridgestone road tyres, BT020 / 21s, just don't last as long as dual purpose tyres. They are fun but not sure if they're all that superior. You're talking 2 sets of BTs to 1 set of say tourances.

Try the original Tourances (not EXP) I believe they last even longer.

I have them on my GSA and think they are pretty good.

i paid 160 quid for a pair of tourances,so far they seem to be brilliant road holding ,dont know about wear yet as only done about 500 miles on them ,but they were recomended to me by folk that know alot more than me about gs,s.:thumb2

Don't forget there's a big difference between Tourance EXP and ordinary Tourance; the EXP has a softer compound and does not last as long.

If you've done 10000 miles on EXPs, you must also be getting 65+mpg... :)

I was talking to the Michelin rep who was on a sales pitch when i was at my local tyre fitters a couple of weeks ago (fitting a new rear TR91 on mine)

He'd heard good things about the TR91's and i suppose he would be taking notice of the competition.

He had just heard that the new Anakees out in Oct this year will be OEM for the new BMW 1200 GS. I did ask when he means NEW BMW did he mean the watercooled one. He didn't know, it was just a product update he knew that was in the pipeline and he'd only just been given the info a few days before.

The model name for the new version he mentioned was 'Anakee Max' when it comes out.

Roll on Oct to find out whats what!
