Has anybody had a problem of an Anakee tyre falling apart. I have spent the last couple of weeks trying to get an Anakee2 and failed. A nice lady from Michelin located one in London for me. Great so my wife and I thought we would make it a day out get the tyre done then a bit of shopping. That would have been the plan if the rear tyre did not fall apart on the M1 at 70mph. Brown pants all round. Long story short 6 hours later two new tyres no shopping wife pissed off. Me pissed off as it could have been very bad day if the tyre had burst insted i have a broken mud guard and had to pay for two new tyres. The guys in the tyre place said they have never seen a tyre do that and that i should contact Michelin which i have. They are supposed to pick it up and see what happend. I will keep you posted because if any one is running on the old Anakee's i would check them out or even change the because we were very luck it didnt blow out. I would post a photo but dont know how to as its worth a look.

how many miles on it when it happened? could it have been too deflated thus overheating? or too square, thus bigger contact patch thus overheating?

8.5k miles, tyre pressure has always been spot on, as my bike has the computer bugging you if it goes down by .01 bar.

Never had a problem with mine, hopefully you were just unlucky (meant in a good way) and it was a one off tyre. I was so impressed with my Anakee I went for Anakee2's about 2k ago, well done for keeping it upright though:thumb2

8.5k ??? That's the bikes mileage surely?

I mean can that many miles be had from a rear tyre?

scary stuff... Miles are quite high for one tyre even at granny style... HOWEVER it the pics do not show it to be squared that much...

In any case it shouldn't have delaminated like that regardless...

Call in the lawyers and start threatening lawsuits right left and centre.... I don't like that American style mentality but it works with corporates - you ll be getting quite a few tyres for free me thinks...

My parents had a product failure (Alfa Romeo 145) like that years ago where their car self detonated at 70mph and ended up burning like a fireball partly burning my moms leg in the process of jumping out of it. Sad story, but after a couple of lawyers and lawsuit threats, let me just say that their mortgage balances somehow just disappeared.... Granted they had an actual injury to show for, but try it.... Go to one of those MCN advertised legal ambulance chasers and see what they do...

oh, and send us a tyre or two if the settlement is good.. make mine Pilot 2s pls...
:thumb

My original fit Anakees were replaced at the 12000 mile service although they still had a few miles left in them. Their replacements are still OK at 22000 miles.

12000 mile tyre :eek:I need some of them, never had more than 4800 miles out o mine!

I'm going for Michelin Anakee 2 Rear & Michelin Anakee for the front for my next set.

That looks a intense crash procedure I imagine. Talk us through those few seconds, was it like one fast quick thwarp of tyre been tore off?? (i might have made that word up)

I get around 5k on my tyres but i do nail it alot.

Anakee Tyre

I now have two new Anakee II fitted. The rear mud guard is £65 just had atext to say it in. When the trye went it was one big twating sort of a thing but it was the shudder that s**t me up i was doing about 70mph when it let go and on a slight left hand bend on the M1 between J5 & 6 MI south b if you know the bend its not a good one for it go if you know what i mean.

Michelin have been informed and are going to pick the tyre up, so we will have to wait and see. :blagblah
