Tyre fitting - what's a fair price?

Rear Tourance for R1150GS

Vines of Guildford: £140

Micheldever Tyres: £92

Guess where I went !

I would prefer to have all my work done at a main dealer. However as far as tyres are concerned the price has to be competitive. I certainly don't expect you to match the cheapest prices that can be achieved, and am perfectly happy to pay a premium for main dealer service, but I don't think the premium should be excessive. If your prices were given including fitting, it would simplify the process of checking around.

At the moment this would be £215.59 inc. vat, new valves, balancing, disposal of old tyres and the Bleed Test.

Been to Specsavers lately Gipsy? :)

Haven't seen the prices quoted, and a couple of years ago when I had 4 tyres for the 2 650 gs's my wife and i had, couldn't get them to commit to a price! Yeh, I wear glasses mainly to help me avoid crap, especially second tome around.

Also own a pair of CBR 600's. Main dealer Wayne Bowen in Treorchy. Fitting included in price quoted as standard. They also fitted ultaseal ( supplied by me ) for nothing.

Ditto the piece on Protyre, Bristol

there on the A420- charged me a total of £104 to have a rear fittted and balnced etc.

had a bloody screw removed and plugged by em also some weeks later that worked out at £23.

Just need to ring ahead and book in - but I've managed to do this on the day even at weekends

They did forget to replace my rear hub dust cap last time though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if they apear to be asleep - when I checked the torque settings and tyre pressures on returning home they were spot on so there's obviously something going on upstairs.

Good luck!

M.M bought a pair of Tourance from local dealer on Sat gone

Fr £54.47 Rr £65.53 +Vat = £141
Fitting & balance charge is £5 per loose wheel.

Another local dealer does ride in-out deal for around £154, he doesnt keep tyres in stock so have to pre-order.

Gipsy

I cannot think of any logical reason for us not to be able to give you a price for your tyres "a couple of years ago" but please feel free to contact me if ever there is an aspect of our service that you feel is crap..............

Peter,
Why are you doing a bleed test when you are only unbolting the calipers and hanging them to one side. You are not removing pads or changing the brake fluid in the braking system, the latter of the two requiring bleed test.

We include a bleed test on bikes with ABS/Servo brakes basically because we believe it is a matter of safety (it's a written requirement on most BMW Service schedules - even when you're not touching the brakes). Every bleed test report is printed & filed and we know that when the customer rides the bike away, the bike is safe. It's just something we do as a matter of course, just like removing and greasing the back of the brake pads & pins when we PDI a bike (to stop brake squeal and prevent seizing of the pads). This is also not something everyone does...........
