I got a tyre inflator from Nippy Normans, which works fine with the 12v socket in my truck, but when I connect to my 1200GS, keeps cutting out. Are there any solutions to this?

The 1200GS power socket is on an off timed cycle after the engine is switched off. This is to prevent battery drain when using accessories.

Yep the acc socket will only let you draw about 5amps, mine did the same when I wired some foglights through a centech fuse panel which was wired through the socket, wire in a cigerette lighter socket straight to the battery, alot more useful than the BMW one anyway.:)

Is there no way of upping the amp rating of the accessory socket itself?

If there is a simple answer to this, that even a three year old child would know, I shall be suitably embarrassed.

In a word no.

On start up the electric pump draws more than the 5 amp limit of the canbus system, simple as that.

I have a pump which works fine on my '04 R12 and trips after a few seconds on a newer R12GS. I think this is a software specific issue.

No fuse problems at all with this one - works a treat!

1 - Buy one of these: http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BAS-SD14&variation=&aitem=8&mitem=11

2 - Put a 10 amp fuse in it.

3 - Pump up the tyres

I think the accessory socket has a 5 amp limit, hence why you need to replace the supplied 5 amp fuse, DAMHIK. Wouldn't want to ask 10 amps through it for a long time though.

This looks like the right thing. Do you think a standard ciggy lighter, connected to the battery, would do the same thing? I live in Turkey and need to sort this out soon, if I order from the UK it would take a while for the goods to arrive.

Should do, just make sure you have some sort of fuse in the system  Or buy this: http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BAS-ZA01&variation=&aitem=10&mitem=11

Or with the 1200, you could put some croc clips and the connect it onto the battery if taking the seat off isn't too much faff for you? Still best to have a fuse in the system though, and make sure the clips are correctly colour coded :thumb

Like the idea of the croc clips, after all, I don't need a permanent solution, just one for when my tyres need air.

Now to find a supplier in Turkey .............
