off to spend a couple of weeks on the continent on my dakar taking spare innertubes but cant find any decent tyre levers to take in emergencys can anyone recomend where to get them from:beerjug:

At the HU meeting, the nice bloke doing the tyre changing demo recommended Buzzetti. 20cm pack of 3 with a spoke hook. Should be about 10 quid. A quick search on the Internet came back with this but I'm sure there are others.

Definately recommend Buzzeti levers they really do the job, you may want to try a pair of 30cm levers rather than a 3 pack of 20cm levers, it really depends how strong you are feeling! I got my from race spec, do a search and you should find them

Not wishing to cast doubt on anyones abilities and, I can't talk as I've yet to change a tire on anything other than my bicycle. But the crafty chap did point out that you shouldn't need much strength to change any tire if you're changing it properly. The key seemed to be, once the bead was broken, to sit it in the well of the wheel therefore giving more slack to the opposite side of the tire so you could get it on or off. Oh, and lubrication was important too... soapy water or if you're in the field, shampoo etc.

Don't use fairy liquid or any washing up liquid - it contains salt, and the inside of your rims will corrode -

After a while you'll wonder why your tyres are losing pressure -

it'll be the rim surface corroded inside, it won't be able to keep an airtight seal -

Also, it's not getting the tyre off thats the problem -
it's trying to get it to seat when you inflate it -

Cheap Hair Conditioner.

use it for lube for getting it on/off and use tons of it to help cause a bead seal when trying to seat - as Neil says above.

Then you can use it for shaving with ....

and any other personal lube issues you may find... ? ;)
